The DJI Agras T40 is a large-field sprayer and spreader with a 40 L spray tank, a 70 L spreader that holds up to 50 kg, and an effective spray width up to 11 m. It uses a coaxial twin-rotor design with eight rotors, weighs 50 kg with its battery, and has omnidirectional radar for obstacle avoidance and terrain following. DJI's newer Agras T50 carries the same tank with higher flow, but the T40 remains a capable workhorse. It's sold by quote.

What it does
Spraying. A 40 L tank and up to 11 m spray width cover large row-crop fields with fewer refills than a 20 L drone. Two magnetic-drive pumps deliver up to 12 L/min in total.
Spreading. The 70 L spreader handles dry granules from 0.5 to 5 mm, such as seed and fertilizer, up to 50 kg per flight with a 7 m spread width.
Surveying and mapping. DJI says the T40 supports surveying and mapping missions as well as spraying and spreading, including mapping with the remote controller, so you can plan field boundaries and obstacles before you fly.
Sensing. The forward omnidirectional radar senses obstacles from 1.5 to 50 m across 360° horizontally, a rear radar covers behind, and a binocular vision system adds sensing in good light. Terrain follow works on slopes up to 30°. DJI rates obstacle avoidance at speeds up to 7 m/s.
Power and charging
Each battery holds 30,000 mAh and weighs about 12 kg, so plan how your crew will move and swap them. DJI rates a full charge at 9 to 12 minutes with the D12000iE generator. With 7-minute loaded flights, most crews rotate three or more batteries to keep the drone flying.
Do you need to register the Agras T40?
Yes. At 50 kg with its battery, it's far over the 55 lb limit for online registration, so it's registered through the FAA aircraft registry. You'll also need a Part 107 certificate for each pilot, an FAA Part 137 operator certificate, a 49 U.S.C. 44807 exemption, and usually a state pesticide applicator license. Agras T40 vs Agras T50
| Agras T40 | Agras T50 | |
|---|---|---|
| Spray tank | 40 L | 40 L |
| Max flow rate | 12 L/min | 24 L/min (4 sprinklers) |
| Spread tank | 70 L | 75 L |
| Terrain follow | Up to 30° | Up to 50° |
| Obstacle sensing speed | Up to 7 m/s | Up to 10 m/s |
The T50 is the better choice for most new buyers, mainly for its doubled flow rate and better sensing at speed. The T40 makes sense if you already run T40 batteries and chargers. Read Agras T40 vs T50.
Who should buy it
- Operators expanding an existing T40 fleet.
- Large row-crop farms where a 40 L tank cuts refill trips.
- Buyers offered a T40 package that fits their acreage and budget.
Common mistakes
- Overloading. DJI says the Agras app recommends a payload limit based on conditions. Don't exceed it.
- Flying fast near obstacles. Obstacle avoidance is rated up to 7 m/s. Above that, you're relying on the route plan.
- Too few batteries. A drone waiting on a charge earns nothing.
