The DJI Air 3 has a dedicated Night video mode: in DJI Fly, tap the Shooting Modes icon, choose Video, then Night. It applies stronger noise reduction, raises the maximum ISO to 12800, and records 4K or 1080p at 24, 25 or 30 fps on either camera. The Air 3 has no thermal or "night vision" camera; Night mode makes regular video cleaner in low light.

What Night mode does
In Normal video, the Air 3's ISO tops out at 6400. Night mode extends it to 12800 and processes the footage to cut grain. The result is cleaner city lights, dusk skylines and twilight landscapes than you'd get by pushing ISO in Normal mode.
Limits to know:
- Resolution and frame rate: 4K or 1080p at 24, 25 or 30 fps. No 60 fps or slow motion.
- Color: Night mode uses Normal color. D-Log M and HLG are limited to ISO 1600.
- FocusTrack: not supported in Night mode.
- Both cameras: the 24 mm wide and the 70 mm medium tele both support Night mode. The wide camera's f/1.7 aperture gathers more light than the tele's f/2.8, so it gives cleaner results in the dark.
Best Air 3 low-light settings
Video at dusk or night
- Use Night mode at 24 or 30 fps.
- In Pro mode, set shutter to 1/50 (24 fps) or 1/60 (30 fps). Going slower than your frame rate isn't possible in video, so ISO does the rest.
- Keep ISO as low as the scene allows. Even with noise reduction, ISO 3200 looks cleaner than 12800.
- Set white balance manually. Around 3200K to 4000K suits sodium and warm LED street lights.
- Fly slowly. Fast moves at slow shutter speeds blur detail.
Photos at night
- Use 12 MP, which allows ISO up to 6400 and simulated long exposures from 2.5 to 8 seconds.
- Shoot RAW (DNG) at ISO 100 to 400 and let the shutter run long. Hover in calm air for the sharpest results.
- Try AEB to capture bright lights and dark shadows, then merge them.
Flying the Air 3 safely at night
- Obstacle sensing is limited in the dark. The Air 3's vision system needs light. DJI notes that during Hyperlapse in poor light the drone keeps shooting without obstacle sensing. Scout your area in daylight for wires, poles and trees.
- Set RTH altitude above the tallest obstacle before you take off.
- Turn the front arm LEDs to On in Settings, Safety if you want them visible. In Auto, DJI Fly turns them off while recording.
Is it legal to fly the Air 3 at night?
Yes, with conditions. Recreational pilots can fly at night if the drone has lighting that shows its location and orientation. Part 107 pilots need current night training and anti-collision lighting visible for 3 statute miles. Many pilots add a clip-on strobe to meet that. Read can you fly a drone at night for details, and check B4UFLY or LAANC for airspace.
For better low-light performance, the Air 3S has a larger 1-inch main sensor and forward LiDAR; compare them in Air 3 vs Air 3S. Or shop the DJI Air 3.
