The best drone to fly with goggles is the DJI Avata 2. It's built for FPV and comes in a kit with DJI Goggles 3 and the RC Motion 3 for $934. For a cheaper start, the DJI Neo works with Goggles N3 ($252) and the RC Motion 3. You can also fly a Mini 4 Pro or Air 3 through Goggles 3, but the Mini 5 Pro, Air 3S, Flip and Mavic 4 Pro don't support DJI goggles.

Best overall: DJI Avata 2 with Goggles 3
The Avata 2 was designed around goggles. It has built-in propeller guards, a 1/1.3-inch camera recording 4K/60fps HDR, 23 minutes of rated flight, and Easy ACRO one-tap flips and rolls. Fly it with the RC Motion 3, which steers where you point it, or the FPV Remote Controller 3 for full Manual mode.
DJI Goggles 3 have dual 1080p micro-OLED screens at up to 100 Hz, head tracking and Real View, a pass-through view that lets you see around you without taking them off.
| Avata 2 kit | Includes | Our price |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | Drone, Goggles 3, RC Motion 3, 1 battery | $934 |
| Fly More Combo | Adds 2 batteries, hub and sling bag | $1,121 |
Best budget: DJI Neo with Goggles N3
The DJI Neo ($186) is a 135 g drone with full guards, so it's forgiving indoors and around people. Add DJI Goggles N3 ($252) and an RC Motion 3 ($109) for a full FPV setup. The N3 has a single 1080p screen with a 54-degree view and is designed to fit over glasses. The trade-offs: shorter flights (18 minutes rated) and a less sharp view than Goggles 3.
Camera drones that support goggles
Goggles 3 also work with the Mini 4 Pro and Air 3 for an immersive view of normal flying. DJI limits what you can do with goggles connected: single 12 MP photos and normal 4K/60 or 1080p/60 video, and no intelligent flight modes or QuickShots. It's fun for scenic cruising, but you lose the features that make those drones great camera platforms. See Mini 4 Pro goggles.
Drones that don't work with goggles
DJI lists no goggles support for the Mini 5 Pro, Air 3S, Flip or Mavic 4 Pro. If an immersive view is important, choose an Avata 2, Neo, Mini 4 Pro or Air 3.
"VR headset" and "FPV helmet" questions
A phone VR headset isn't a substitute for FPV goggles: latency and screen quality matter for safe flying. DJI goggles show the live feed with low latency and record it to a microSD card. Wear them with the strap snug, not like a helmet; for glasses wearers, Goggles 3 have diopter adjustment and N3 fit over glasses.
Rules for flying with goggles
In the US, when you fly with goggles as a recreational pilot, a visual observer must stand beside you and keep the drone in sight. The Avata 2 (377 g) must be registered with the FAA. The Neo (135 g) doesn't need registration for hobby use. See are FPV drones legal.
