Best drone under $200 (2026)

UPDATED OCTOBER 2026

The best drone under $200 is the DJI Neo at $186. It's a 135 g camera drone that takes off from your palm, follows you automatically and records stabilized 4K video, all without a controller. Most other drones at this price are toys with fixed cameras and no GPS, so they drift and produce shaky footage. If you can stretch to $307, the Mini 2 SE is a more traditional drone with longer flights and range.

DJI's published specs and our current price. The Neo is the only DJI camera drone under $200, and it flies from your palm or phone.

Why the DJI Neo

The DJI Neo is built for quick clips of yourself:

  • Palm takeoff and landing, plus one-tap modes such as Follow, Dronie, Circle and Rocket.
  • 4K/30fps video from a 1/2-inch, 12 MP sensor on a single-axis gimbal with electronic stabilization.
  • Full propeller guards, so it's safe near people and indoors.
  • Phone control in DJI Fly, or the RC-N3 controller for longer flights and manual control (included in the $411 Fly More Combo).
  • 135 g, under the FAA's 250 g registration threshold for recreational pilots.

The trade-offs

Be realistic about what $186 buys:

  • 18 minutes of rated flight time per battery. The Fly More Combo's three batteries and charging hub help a lot.
  • No obstacle avoidance. It has downward sensors for hovering, nothing for walls or trees.
  • Small sensor. Daylight footage is good; low light gets noisy.
  • Wind. A light drone gets pushed around on breezy days.

What to avoid under $200

Many sub-$200 drones on marketplaces look like DJI models but lack GPS, a stabilized camera or a reliable video link. Without GPS they can't hold position or return home on their own. If a listing doesn't say what sensor and stabilization it has, assume it's basic.

If you can spend a little more

Drone Price Best for
DJI Neo $186 Selfie and follow clips, beginners
DJI Neo Fly More Combo $411 Neo with controller and 3 batteries
DJI Mini 2 SE $307 Learning to fly, 31 min flights, GPS return-to-home

The Mini 2 SE trades the Neo's palm launch for a controller, 2.7K video, 31 minutes of rated flight and up to 10 km of range. See best drone under $300.

Rules still apply

Even a 135 g drone is an aircraft. Recreational pilots need the free TRUST test, must stay at or below 400 ft and keep the drone in sight, and can't fly in controlled airspace without authorization. Check no-fly zones before you fly.
