Turks and Caicos regulates drones through its own Civil Aviation Authority (TCI CAA), under the aviation law that applies to British Overseas Territories, not FAA or UK mainland rules. The authority doesn't publish a simple online drone guide for tourists that we could confirm, so contact the TCI CAA before your trip to ask what permission your flight needs. Plan on staying well away from Providenciales International Airport, which is a short distance from Grace Bay.

Who sets the rules
Turks and Caicos is a British Overseas Territory. Aviation there is governed by the Air Navigation (Overseas Territories) Order and regulated locally by the TCI CAA. That means:
- Your FAA registration doesn't give you permission to fly there.
- UK CAA rules for Great Britain don't apply directly either.
- The TCI CAA can require permission for drone flights and set conditions.
Contact the TCI Civil Aviation Authority a few weeks before travel. Send your drone's make, model, weight and serial number, your dates, and where you'd like to fly, and ask whether a permit is needed. Bring the written reply.
Where flying is hard
Providenciales airport. Providenciales International Airport (PLS) handles jets and lots of small planes and seaplanes flying to the outer islands. It sits inland from Grace Bay, so much of the resort strip is close to busy airspace. Don't fly near the airport or its approach paths without permission.
National parks and reserves. Princess Alexandra National Park covers Grace Bay's waters and beach, and the islands have other protected parks and nature reserves. Park rules apply in addition to aviation rules. Ask before flying.
Resorts and villas. Many resorts restrict drones on their property and over their beach areas, and flying over sunbathers is unsafe anywhere. Ask your hotel.
Flying safely
Until you hear otherwise from the TCI CAA, follow familiar limits:
- Stay below 400 ft and keep the drone in sight
- Don't fly over people, boats full of passengers or private property
- Fly in daylight only
- Watch the trade winds, which can be strong over open water; read flying a drone in wind
Which drone to bring
A small drone is easier to carry and less intrusive:
- DJI Mini 4 Pro: 249 g, omnidirectional sensing and reliable return-to-home over water.
- DJI Mini 5 Pro: 249 g with a 1-inch sensor for the turquoise shallows.
- DJI Neo: 135 g, palm launch on calm mornings.
Pack spare batteries in your carry-on; see traveling with a drone.
Rules current as of October 2026. This is general information, not legal advice. Confirm current requirements with the TCI Civil Aviation Authority before you fly.
