DJI Mini 4 Pro vision sensor error: calibration and fixes

UPDATED OCTOBER 2026

A vision sensor error on the DJI Mini 4 Pro means one of its obstacle-sensing cameras, or the 3D infrared sensor underneath, isn't giving the flight controller usable data. Dirt, darkness, glare or a recent knock are the usual causes. Clean every sensor, restart outdoors in daylight and update the firmware. If DJI Fly asks to calibrate the vision system, let it run: on the Mini 4 Pro it's automatic.

Mini 4 Pro sensor fixes
Most Mini 4 Pro vision warnings clear after cleaning and a restart in good light. DJI says the vision cameras calibrate automatically through a DJI Fly prompt.

Where the sensors are

The Mini 4 Pro has an omnidirectional binocular vision system that senses forward, backward, sideways and up, a downward vision system, and a 3D infrared sensor on the bottom. When any of them reports bad data, DJI Fly can show a vision or sensing system warning, and obstacle avoidance or low-altitude positioning may be unavailable.

Fixes to try

  1. Clean every sensor. Use a soft cloth on all the vision lenses and the infrared window. DJI says not to use any cleaning product that contains alcohol.
  2. Remove obstructions. DJI says to check before each flight that nothing covers the vision or infrared sensor glass: stickers, film, a propeller guard edge, a strap.
  3. Restart in good conditions. The side and upward sensors need light above 15 lux and surfaces with visible texture. A drone started in a dark room, on glass or on a plain white floor can throw warnings that clear outdoors in daylight.
  4. Check for moisture. Fog or condensation on the lenses blinds them. Let the drone warm up and dry.
  5. Update firmware for the aircraft in DJI Fly. If DJI Fly can't update, use DJI Assistant 2 (Consumer Drones Series) on a computer.
  6. Let calibration run. DJI's manual says the vision cameras may need calibrating after long storage, and that DJI Fly shows a prompt and calibrates them automatically. Follow it and keep the drone still.
  7. Check the IMU and compass. In DJI Fly, Safety > Sensors shows their status and lets you calibrate them. An IMU problem can show up alongside vision warnings. See how to calibrate the compass and IMU.

Night flying is not an error

DJI says the Mini 4 Pro's vision systems become unavailable when flying at night. Warnings that the vision system or obstacle avoidance is unavailable after dark are expected. Fly with extra care and a higher RTH altitude.

About manual vision calibration

Some older DJI drones let you calibrate vision sensors in DJI Assistant 2 using a pattern on your computer screen. For the Mini 4 Pro, DJI's manual describes automatic calibration through DJI Fly. If you can't find a manual option, that's expected. Don't use third-party calibration tools.

When it needs repair

Contact DJI support or start a repair if:

  • The error comes back after cleaning, an update and a restart in daylight
  • A lens is cracked or scratched (DJI asks you to contact support for any damaged sensor lens)
  • The warning started after a crash
  • The drone drifts badly or won't take off because of the warning

DJI Care Refresh covers crash damage to sensors. Until it's fixed, fly as if obstacle avoidance is off. For what the sensors can and can't see, read Mini 4 Pro obstacle avoidance not working, and for other models see DJI vision sensor error.
