DJI Mini 4 Pro vs Neo 2: which small drone should you buy?

UPDATED OCTOBER 2026

The Mini 4 Pro is the better camera drone: a larger 48 MP sensor, a 3-axis gimbal, 34 minutes of rated flight and 20 km of range. The Neo 2 is a 151 g selfie drone you can launch from your palm and control with gestures or your voice, built for short follow-me clips rather than landscapes. One more thing for US buyers: DJI hasn't officially launched the Neo 2 in the US, while the Mini 4 Pro is fully supported here.

Specs from DJI. The Mini 4 Pro is a full camera drone; the Neo 2 is a lighter selfie and follow drone you can launch from your hand.

Who each drone is for

  • Mini 4 Pro: travel, landscape, real estate and anyone who wants to fly far, frame shots carefully and get the best image quality under 250 g.
  • Neo 2: solo creators, hikers and cyclists who want quick tracking shots of themselves without unpacking a controller.

Camera and video

The Mini 4 Pro has a 1/1.3-inch 48 MP sensor on a 3-axis mechanical gimbal. It shoots 4K/60fps HDR, 4K/100fps slow motion, 10-bit D-Log M and true vertical video by rotating the camera.

The Neo 2 uses a 1/2-inch 12 MP sensor on a 2-axis gimbal (tilt and roll) with electronic stabilization. DJI lists 4K at up to 100fps, but only when you fly it with a remote or motion controller. It records JPEG photos only and saves to 49 GB of internal storage.

For sunsets, night scenes and photos you'll print, the Mini 4 Pro's bigger sensor makes a clear difference.

Flying and safety

The Mini 4 Pro comes with a controller and uses O4 transmission, rated at 20 km (FCC). It has omnidirectional binocular vision sensing and ActiveTrack.

The Neo 2 flies over Wi-Fi from your phone as standard, which is meant for short range. An optional digital transceiver adds O4 and raises the rated range to 10 km (FCC) with the RC-N3 or goggles. It adds omnidirectional monocular vision and forward LiDAR, which the original Neo didn't have, and DJI says it tracks people at up to 12 m/s.

Rated flight time is 34 minutes for the Mini 4 Pro and about 19 minutes for the Neo 2.

Registration and rules

Both weigh under 250 g, so recreational pilots don't register either one with the FAA. You still need to pass the free TRUST test and follow the recreational rules. Flying for any business purpose requires a Part 107 certificate and registration, whatever the weight.

Can you buy a Neo 2 in the US?

The Neo 2 appeared in FCC records in 2025, but DJI never officially launched it here. Imported units may not get US warranty service. If you want the Neo's palm-launch style with US support, the original DJI Neo is still sold here from $186. It's lighter at 135 g but has a 1-axis gimbal and no obstacle sensing. Our recommendation

Buy the Mini 4 Pro ($835 with the RC-N2, or $1,209 for the Fly More Combo with the DJI RC 2) if you want a drone that does everything well. Buy a Neo-style drone if you mainly want clips of yourself and value instant launch over image quality.
