Part 107 test: how many questions and what's the passing score?

UPDATED OCTOBER 2026

The passing score for the Part 107 knowledge test is 70%. The test, officially "Unmanned Aircraft General – Small (UAG)," has 60 multiple-choice questions and a 2-hour time limit, so you need 42 correct answers and can miss up to 18. You see your score at the testing center when you finish.

Part 107 test by the numbers
You need 42 of 60 correct to pass the Unmanned Aircraft General (UAG) knowledge test. If you fail, you can retest after 14 calendar days.

How scoring works

  • Each question has three answer choices and one correct answer.
  • Your score is the percentage you got right. 70% or higher passes.
  • There's no penalty for guessing, so answer every question.
  • Your test report lists the knowledge areas of the questions you missed, as codes from the FAA's Airman Certification Standards. Study those codes before a retake or before you fly.

What the questions cover

The FAA lists these areas for the UAG test:

  • Regulations for small drones, including limits and operating rules
  • Airspace classification, operating requirements and flight restrictions
  • Aviation weather sources and weather's effect on drone performance
  • Loading and performance
  • Emergency procedures and crew resource management
  • Radio communication procedures and airport operations
  • Physiological effects of drugs and alcohol
  • Aeronautical decision-making and judgment
  • Maintenance and preflight inspection
  • Operation at night

Expect plenty of questions built on sectional chart excerpts and weather reports from the testing supplement you're given at the center. See how to read sectional charts and Part 107 weather and METARs.

If you don't pass

Part 107 says you must wait 14 calendar days after a failed test before you retest. You pay the testing fee again when you rebook. Use the missed-topic codes on your report to focus your study. See Part 107 cost.

After you pass

Your score shows up in IACRA, the FAA's application system, within about 48 hours. Start a Remote Pilot application there and enter the 17-digit exam ID from your test report. The timeline from there is on how long it takes to get Part 107.

How to beat 70% comfortably

  • Aim for 85% or better on timed practice tests before you book.
  • Learn chart symbols and airspace floors and ceilings cold. They're the most common misses.
  • Read every question twice and check units: feet MSL vs AGL, statute vs nautical miles.
  • Use the full two hours. Flag tough questions and come back.
