A DJI Air 3 with its status lights blinking yellow quickly has lost the signal from its remote controller. Turn the controller on, or re-pair it if it is already on. If the lights alternate red and yellow instead, the compass needs calibrating. Yellow on the DJI RC 2 or the charging hub means something different, so check which device is lit before you troubleshoot.

Yellow on the aircraft
DJI's Air 3 manual lists these status indicator patterns. They show when the drone is powered on and the motors aren't running:
| Pattern | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Red, yellow and green alternating | Powering on and running self-checks (normal) |
| Blinking green slowly | GNSS (satellite positioning) enabled |
| Blinking green twice, repeating | Vision systems enabled |
| Blinking yellow quickly | Remote controller signal lost |
| Blinking red and yellow alternately | Compass calibration required |
| Blinking red slowly | Takeoff disabled, for example low battery |
| Blinking red quickly | Critically low battery |
| Solid red | Critical error |
Once the motors start, the status lights alternate red and green to show heading. That's normal.
Fast yellow blink: fix it step by step
On the ground:
- Power on the controller. The most common cause is simply a controller that's off or asleep.
- Check you have the right controller. A controller linked to a different drone won't connect.
- Re-pair. Power on both, open DJI Fly, tap the menu, then Control > Re-pair to Aircraft. Press and hold the aircraft's power button for more than four seconds. Keep the controller within 0.5 m of the drone. The controller beeps twice when linking succeeds.
- Update firmware on both devices in DJI Fly if pairing keeps failing.
Full steps are in Air 3 not connecting.
In flight: the drone has lost the link. It follows your Signal Lost setting: RTH, land or hover, set in Settings > Safety > Advanced Safety Settings. If set to RTH, and the Home Point was recorded and the compass is working, Failsafe RTH starts after the signal has been lost for more than six seconds. The drone stays in RTH even if the signal comes back, though you can cancel RTH once you have control again.
To help the link recover:
- Unfold the DJI RC 2's antennas and angle them so they face the drone. DJI's manual shows the best signal with the antennas at 180° or 270° to the back of the controller.
- Move to open ground, away from buildings, trees and power lines.
- Don't chase it. Let RTH bring it home.
See drone keeps losing signal.
Red and yellow: calibrate the compass
Calibrate in DJI Fly under Safety > Sensors. Do it outdoors, away from cars, rebar, steel bridges and metal decks, and away from phones and keys in your pocket. Follow the on-screen rotations. If the warning returns at the same spot every time, the location is the problem, not the drone. See DJI compass error.
Yellow on the DJI RC 2
| Pattern | Meaning | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Blinking yellow | Controller battery low | Charge over USB-C |
| Solid yellow | Firmware update failed | Restart both devices and update again in DJI Fly |
| Blinking cyan | Control sticks not centered | Let the sticks return to center |
The RC-N2 controller has no status light. It shows connection state only in the DJI Fly app and through its battery LEDs.
Yellow on the charging hub
| Pattern | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Solid yellow | Idle, nothing charging |
| Blinking yellow | Batteries too hot or too cold to charge |
| Pulsing green | Charging or transferring power |
| Solid red | Power supply or battery error |
Blinking yellow needs no action. Charging resumes once the batteries are between 5° and 40° C (41° and 104° F). After a flight on a hot day, let the batteries cool for a while before charging. Solid red means remove and reinsert the batteries, or unplug and reconnect the charger.
If the hub or batteries won't charge at all, see Air 3 won't turn on or charge.
Yellow in the DJI Fly app
When obstacle sensing spots something in the direction you're flying, the vision assist view shows a yellow warning at 2.2 to 5 m and red at 2.2 m or less. Slow down and steer away. That's a collision warning, not a fault.
When to get help
DJI Fly shows the reason for most warnings on screen, so check the app before guessing from lights. For other models, read DJI drone lights meaning. If the lights show solid red, that's a critical error: don't fly, and contact DJI or start a repair. If the drone is covered, DJI Care Refresh can lower the repair cost.
Quick answers
Is it safe to fly with a yellow blink? No. It means there's no controller link. Fix the connection first.
Why does it blink yellow right after I power it on? The controller is off, still booting or linked to another drone.
Does yellow mean a low drone battery? No. Low battery shows as blinking red.
