The best DJI drone for most people in 2026 is the Air 3S ($1,209): a 1-inch 50 MP main camera, a 48 MP 70 mm tele, forward LiDAR and 45-minute flights at a fair price. The Mini 4 Pro ($835) is the best for beginners, the Mini 5 Pro ($835) has the best camera under 250 g, and the Mavic 4 Pro ($2,419) is the best for professionals. For FPV, get the Avata 2. For selfies, the Neo. For work, the Matrice 4T.

Best overall: DJI Air 3S
The Air 3S hits the middle of the lineup in the right places. Its 1-inch main sensor is a big step up from a Mini in low light. The 70 mm tele gives a second look on every flight. It records 4K/60 HDR and 4K/120 slow motion in 10-bit D-Log M, has omnidirectional sensing with forward LiDAR, and is rated for 12 m/s wind. It weighs 724 g, so you register it ($5 for 3 years). See the Air 3S.
Best for beginners: DJI Mini 4 Pro
Obstacle sensing in every direction stops most beginner crashes, and at under 249 g there's no FAA registration for hobby flying. It also has ActiveTrack 360°, waypoints and true vertical video, and it works with Goggles 3 if you want to try FPV later. DJI sold it in the US from launch, so accessories are easy to find. See the Mini 4 Pro.
Best under 250 g: DJI Mini 5 Pro
The first 1-inch sensor in a sub-250 g drone, with forward LiDAR for low-light sensing and 36-minute flights. It costs the same as the Mini 4 Pro. The catch is availability: DJI didn't launch it in the US, so our stock is limited. See Mini 4 Pro vs Mini 5 Pro.
Best for professionals: DJI Mavic 4 Pro
A 100 MP Four Thirds Hasselblad camera with an f/2.0 to f/11 aperture, 70 mm and 168 mm teles, 6K/60 video, a gimbal that rotates a full turn and 51-minute flights. It's the most capable folding drone DJI makes. Stock is limited in the US. See the Mavic 4 Pro.
Best FPV: DJI Avata 2
Our standard kit includes Goggles 3 and the RC Motion 3, so you can fly immersively from day one. Built-in prop guards, Easy ACRO flips and a 155° camera make it the easiest way into FPV. Fly with a visual observer next to you. See the Avata 2.
Best for selfies: DJI Neo
At 135 g, the Neo launches from your palm and follows you without a controller. It's the simplest way to film yourself hiking, biking or traveling. For a better camera on a 3-axis gimbal, the Flip ($483) is the step up. See the Neo.
Best for work: DJI Matrice 4T
Radiometric thermal, a 48 MP wide camera, 70 mm and 168 mm teles and a laser rangefinder in a folding 1.22 kg drone. It's the go-to for public safety and inspection. See best thermal drone.
How we chose
- Image quality for the money, weighted by sensor size and lens options.
- Safety features that prevent crashes, especially obstacle sensing.
- Ease of ownership: registration rules, accessories, and US support.
- Availability: every pick is legal to buy and fly in the US.
Common mistakes
- Buying the most expensive drone first. A drone you carry is better than one you leave at home.
- Skipping the Fly More Combo. One battery is rarely enough.
- Forgetting the rules. Pass the free TRUST test for hobby flying, and get Part 107 for paid work.
