For most pilots, DJI Fly is the app to use: it's free, it supports every current DJI consumer drone, it works on iPhone, Android and DJI's screen controllers, and it has built-in Waypoint Flight on the Mini 4 Pro, Mini 5 Pro, Air 3S and Mavic models. Litchi is worth it if you want to plan detailed missions on a computer and fly them from an Android phone, but its support for newer drones is limited: Litchi Pilot works with the Mini 3, Mini 3 Pro and Mini 4 Pro, not the Mini 5 Pro, Air 3 series or Mavic 3 and 4.

Which drones each app supports
DJI Fly supports DJI's current consumer drones, including the Neo, Flip, Mini 2 SE, Mini 3, Mini 4 Pro, Mini 5 Pro, Air 3S and Mavic 4 Pro.
Litchi comes as two apps, according to its developers:
- Litchi for DJI Drones (the classic app) supports older models such as the Mini 2, Mini SE (version 1), Air 2S, Mavic Air 2, Mavic 2 and Phantom 4.
- Litchi Pilot is for newer drones built on DJI's current SDK. It lists the Mini 4 Pro, Mini 3 and Mini 3 Pro, plus enterprise models like the Matrice 4 and Mavic 3 Enterprise. It's distributed as an Android app, not for iPhone or iPad, and can't be installed on the DJI RC or RC 2 screen controllers. The Mini 5 Pro, Air 3 series and Mavic 3 and 4 aren't supported because DJI hasn't released an SDK for them.
Check Litchi's site before you buy, because support changes as DJI releases SDKs.
What DJI Fly does well
- Waypoint Flight on the Mini 4 Pro, Mini 5 Pro, Air 3S and Mavic models: pin points on the map or in flight, set camera actions, save routes to the Library. See DJI waypoints guide.
- ActiveTrack, MasterShots, QuickShots, Hyperlapse and panoramas that use the drone's obstacle sensing.
- Safety: GEO zone unlocks, Remote ID, return-to-home settings and firmware updates all live in DJI Fly.
- Works on DJI RC 2, so you don't need a phone at all.
What Litchi does better
- Plan on a computer. Litchi Hub lets you build missions on a PC or Mac and sync them to the app. DJI Fly plans only in the app.
- Mission detail. Curves, orbits, spirals and per-waypoint camera actions, plus 3D flight preview in Litchi Hub.
- Older drones. The classic Litchi app adds waypoints to drones like the Mini 2 and Air 2S that never got Waypoint Flight in DJI Fly.
Safety first
Automated missions don't change the rules. Keep the drone in visual line of sight, keep obstacle avoidance on where the app allows it, check airspace before you fly, and stay ready to take over. A waypoint route doesn't know about new trees, cranes or people. See drone no-fly zones and LAANC explained.
Which should you use?
- Mini 5 Pro, Air 3S, Mavic 4 Pro: DJI Fly. Litchi doesn't support them.
- Mini 4 Pro: DJI Fly for everyday flying and waypoints; try Litchi Pilot on Android if you want desktop-planned missions.
- Mini 3: DJI Fly has no Waypoint Flight on the Mini 3, so Litchi Pilot on Android is the main way to fly waypoints. See Mini 3 waypoints.
Want waypoints built in? The Mini 4 Pro and Mini 5 Pro both have them. Compare models in our drone finder.
