Best DJI Flip camera settings for photo and video

UPDATED OCTOBER 2026

The best all-round DJI Flip settings are 4K at 30 or 60 fps, Pro exposure at ISO 100, a shutter about double the frame rate with an ND filter in sun, and D-Log M if you color grade. For photos, shoot 48 MP RAW (DNG) in good light and 12 MP in dim light, and use AEB for high-contrast scenes.

DJI Flip starting settings
Good daylight starting points for the DJI Flip. Keep 4K at 60 fps or below to get the best dynamic range, and use ND filters for a natural shutter.

Best Flip video settings

Setting Recommendation Why
Resolution 4K Up to 60 fps, or 100 fps for slow motion
Frame rate 30 or 60 fps DJI says dual native ISO improves dynamic range at 60 fps and below
Color D-Log M (10-bit) or Normal D-Log M is for grading; there's no HLG
ISO 100 D-Log M is limited to ISO 1600; Normal goes to 6400
Shutter 1/60 at 30 fps, 1/120 at 60 fps Natural motion blur
White balance Manual Consistent color between clips

Max bitrate is 150 Mbps. If you shoot D-Log M, convert it with DJI's official Flip LUT. For a natural shutter in daylight, see Flip ND filters.

Best Flip photo settings

  • Resolution: 48 MP for detail, 12 MP for low light and for simulated long exposures of 2.5 to 8 seconds.
  • Format: RAW (DNG) plus JPEG.
  • ISO: 100. Photo ISO reaches 6400 at 12 MP and 3200 at 48 MP.
  • AEB: 3, 5 or 7 frames at 12 MP in 2/3 EV steps. Use it for sunsets and bright skies.
  • Burst: 3, 5 or 7 frames at 12 MP for action.
  • Timed: every 2 to 60 seconds at 12 MP.

Flight mode settings

  • Cine (C): limited speed for smooth video. Use it for reveals and slow orbits.
  • Normal (N): general flying with obstacle sensing and auto braking.
  • Sport (S): highest speed. Obstacle sensing is off and braking distance grows to at least 30 m, so fly with care.

The Flip's 3D infrared sensor looks forward. It doesn't sense obstacles to the sides or behind, so check your surroundings before flying sideways or backward.

RTH settings

Set the RTH altitude in DJI Fly before every flight, higher than the tallest obstacle on your route. How the Flip returns:

  • More than 50 m away: it climbs to RTH altitude and flies home.
  • 5 to 50 m away: it flies straight back at its current altitude.
  • Under 5 m: it lands immediately.
  • If the controller signal is lost and Signal Lost Action is set to RTH, it first flies back 50 m along its route, then starts RTH.

The forward 3D infrared sensor can detect obstacles ahead during RTH; the drone climbs to clear them.

Palm and app control

Without a controller, the Flip can fly from your palm or the DJI Fly app with modes such as Follow, Dronie, Circle, Rocket and Spotlight. In app control it's limited to 30 m height and 50 m distance.

File transfer

QuickTransfer sends files to your phone over Wi-Fi at up to 30 MB/s. Keep the phone within 2 m of the drone with nothing in between.
