Best DJI Avata 2 camera settings for photo and video

UPDATED OCTOBER 2026

The best all-round DJI Avata 2 settings are 4K at 60 fps, Wide FOV, D-Log M if you grade, RockSteady stabilization, and a shutter near 1/120 using an ND filter in daylight. If you'll stabilize in Gyroflow, set EIS to Off and FOV to Wide, which DJI requires for Gyroflow, and record 4K 4:3 so you have room to crop.

Avata 2 starting settings
Two good Avata 2 setups: in-camera stabilization for ready-to-post footage, or EIS off in Wide view for later stabilization in Gyroflow.

Video settings

Open camera settings by pushing the 5D button on DJI Goggles 3 forward from the FPV view.

Setting Recommendation Notes
Resolution 4K 4:3 at 30/50/60 fps or 16:9 up to 100 fps
Frame rate 60 fps Smooth motion; 100 fps (16:9) for slow motion
FOV Wide Normal and Ultra-Wide also available
Color D-Log M for grading Standard for quick edits
EIS RockSteady (default) or HorizonSteady Off for Gyroflow
Video quality High Max bitrate is 130 Mbps
Shutter 1/120 at 60 fps Use ND filters in sun

4:3 or 16:9? 4:3 (3840×2880) gives extra height for reframing, vertical crops and Gyroflow. 16:9 is ready to post and unlocks 4K/100.

Photo settings

The Avata 2 shoots 12 MP JPEG stills (4000×3000 at 4:3 or 4000×2256 at 16:9) in single-shot mode only. There's no RAW. For the best stills, hover, lower the speed, and grab frames in good light. Many pilots pull frames from 4K video instead.

Rate and expo settings

  • Motion controller (RC Motion 3): fly in Normal or Sport. Adjust Gain Tuning in the goggles menu under Settings, Control. Easy ACRO adds one-push flips, rolls and, since November 2024 firmware, Power Loops with Goggles 3 or Goggles N3.
  • FPV Remote Controller 3, Manual mode: Manual mode is off by default. Adjust the throttle stick screws so it doesn't recenter, then in the goggles go to Settings, Control, Remote Controller, Button Customization, Custom Mode, and set Manual. DJI limits the max attitude at first; once you're comfortable you can remove the restriction and tune Gain and Expo in the goggles. Practice in a simulator before flying Manual.

Speeds: Normal 8 m/s, Sport 16 m/s, Manual 27 m/s. The first flight runs in Beginner mode at 1 m/s; turn it off under Settings, Control, Beginner Mode.

RTH and safety settings

In the goggles, go to Settings, Safety:

  • Max altitude and max distance: set them to match your site and local rules.
  • RTH altitude: higher than the tallest obstacle. The Avata 2 has downward and backward vision positioning but no obstacle avoidance on the way home.
  • Signal Lost Action: RTH, Hover or Land. RTH is the right choice in open areas; Hover can be better near tall trees.
  • Update the Home Point if you move your takeoff spot.

Night settings

The Avata 2 has no Night mode and no auxiliary light. For dusk flights, use 30 fps so the shutter can drop to 1/60, keep EIS on, and allow ISO to rise. ISO goes up to 25600, but noise climbs quickly. Details in Avata 2 night flying.

Before you fly

The Avata 2 weighs 377 g, so it must be registered with the FAA and broadcasts Remote ID. Recreational pilots need the TRUST certificate. In goggles you need a visual observer next to you to keep the drone in sight.

For grading, see Avata 2 LUT. Or shop the DJI Avata 2.
