The DJI Flip is the better camera drone: a larger 1/1.3-inch, 48 MP sensor, a 3-axis gimbal and up to 31 minutes per battery. The DJI Neo 2 is the smaller, lighter selfie drone, with all-around obstacle sensing, gesture-friendly palm launches and goggles support for FPV flying. One more thing matters in the US: DJI never officially launched the Neo 2 here, while the Flip is sold in the US.

Specs from DJI's Flip and Neo 2 spec pages.
Camera and stabilization
The Flip's bigger sensor and 3-axis gimbal make the clearer difference on screen. Footage is cleaner in dim light, and the gimbal holds the horizon in every direction. It also shoots 48 MP stills and supports 10-bit D-Log M.
The Neo 2's 1/2-inch sensor is the same size class as the original Neo, but it adds a roll axis to the gimbal and can record 4K at 60 fps. For quick social clips and follow shots it's fine; for travel footage you plan to edit, the Flip is better.
Size and safety
Both have propeller guards. The Neo 2 is the more pocketable of the two at 151 g, and DJI says each battery handles at least 20 palm takeoffs and landings for short shots. The Flip folds its guarded arms flat and is still small, but it's a full camera drone at just under 249 g.
The Neo 2's omnidirectional sensing and forward LiDAR are a real upgrade over the original Neo, which only senses downward. The Flip senses obstacles ahead with a 3D infrared sensor.
Goggles and FPV
If you want to fly through goggles, the Flip is out: it doesn't work with any DJI goggles. The Neo 2 does, with its Digital Transceiver fitted and paired with Goggles 3 or N3 and a motion or FPV controller. For a goggles drone we sell in the US, see the original DJI Neo or the Avata 2.
Can you buy the Neo 2 in the US?
The Neo 2 appeared in FCC records in 2025, but DJI didn't officially launch it in the US, and new DJI models can't get FCC authorization after the December 2025 Covered List decision. We don't stock it. The original Neo ($186) and Flip ($483) are both authorized and on sale. See which DJI products are affected.
Registration
Both weigh under 250 g, so recreational pilots don't register them with the FAA. Take the free TRUST test first.
Which to buy
- Flip: better video and photos, longer flights, simple screen-based flying.
- Neo 2 (where sold): lightest option, all-around sensing, goggles support.
- Original Neo: cheapest US option for palm selfies and goggles.
