Only Netflix can answer this, and its approved-camera list is the place to check: Netflix approves specific camera models and recording settings, and the list changes over time. We couldn't confirm the Ronin 4D's current listing from an official source while writing this, so before you plan a Netflix production around a Ronin 4D, look up the exact version (Zenmuse X9-6K or X9-8K) on Netflix's approved cameras page or ask the production's Netflix contact.

Why the exact version matters
The Ronin 4D comes with one of two full-frame cameras:
- Zenmuse X9-6K: dual native ISO 800 and 5000, EI 200 to 12800.
- Zenmuse X9-8K: dual native ISO 320 and 1600 (800 and 4000 with Dynamic Range Expansion on), EI 200 to 6400.
Netflix lists cameras model by model, so one X9 version being on the list doesn't mean the other is. Approval can also be tied to particular recording settings, so read the details for the exact model.
Specs that matter for high-end deliverables
From DJI's Ronin 4D spec page:
| Area | Ronin 4D |
|---|---|
| Sensor | 35mm full-frame CMOS |
| Dynamic range | 14+ stops |
| Recording | Apple ProRes RAW HQ / ProRes RAW, ProRes 4444 XQ, ProRes 422 HQ / LT, H.264 10-bit |
| Gamma | D-Log, Rec.709, HLG |
| Media | DJI PROSSD 1TB (no format restrictions), CFexpress 2.0 Type B, USB-C SSD |
| ND | Built-in 9-stop ND, clear to ND512 |
| Lens mounts | DL (included), L, M, plus third-party E and PL mount units |
| Audio | 2-ch 24-bit 48 kHz LPCM, 3.5 mm input |
DJI says the X9's color matches easily with ARRI cinema cameras and supports an ACES workflow, and it sells a separate RAW license key for ProRes RAW recording. Full ProRes RAW and the highest frame rates require the DJI PROSSD; CFexpress and USB-C SSD support fewer formats.
How to check approval
- Open Netflix's Approved Cameras list in the Netflix Partner Help Center.
- Search for DJI and note the exact model listed (X9-6K or X9-8K).
- Read the required recording settings for that camera.
- Confirm with your production's post team that your planned codec, resolution and media match.
If it's not on the list
Ask the production's Netflix contact before the shoot. They can tell you whether the Ronin 4D can be used for any part of the project, such as specialty shots, and which settings to record in.
Why crews pick the Ronin 4D
It combines a full-frame cinema camera, a 4-axis gimbal with an active Z-axis that cancels vertical bounce, LiDAR focusing and O3 Pro video transmission (up to about 6 km FCC, 1080p/60fps) in one body. For small crews, that replaces a separate stabilizer, focus puller and video village.
