DJI Matrice 350 RTK vs Matrice 400: which should you buy?

UPDATED OCTOBER 2026

Get the Matrice 400 if you're buying a new heavy-lift platform today: it carries up to 6 kg, flies 59 minutes with a Zenmuse H30T, senses obstacles with rotating LiDAR and mmWave radar, and has a 40 km FCC video link. Get the Matrice 350 RTK if you already own payloads it supports and the Matrice 400 doesn't, such as the Zenmuse H20 series or L1, or if you want to match an existing fleet. Both are IP55-rated and sold by quote.

Matrice 350 RTK vs Matrice 400
DJI's published specs. The Matrice 400 lifts more, senses better and links farther. The Matrice 350 RTK supports more older Zenmuse payloads.

Specs are DJI's published figures. Kits are quoted because payloads, batteries and charging stations vary.

The key differences

Payload. The Matrice 350 RTK carries up to three gimbals, with each gimbal damper rated at 960 g. The Matrice 400 is a bigger aircraft rated for 6 kg in total, with up to 1,400 g on a single gimbal connector and 6 kg on its third connector with screw-lock mounting. If you need to carry a heavy third-party sensor, a parachute plus a camera, or several payloads at once, the Matrice 400 has far more headroom.

Endurance. The numbers look close, but they're measured differently. DJI rates the Matrice 350 RTK at 55 minutes with no payload. The Matrice 400's 59 minutes is measured while carrying a Zenmuse H30T. In real missions with a payload attached, the Matrice 400 has the clear advantage.

Obstacle sensing. The Matrice 400's rotating LiDAR and mmWave radar are designed to detect power lines. DJI rates its radar at 50 m for a 21.6 mm steel-core aluminum wire. The Matrice 350 RTK uses vision and infrared sensors, which need adequate light and can miss thin wires. For power line and night work, that matters.

Link. The Matrice 400 is rated at 40 km FCC, double the 350 RTK's 20 km. Under US line-of-sight rules, that means a steadier feed around structures and terrain, not longer flights.

Payload compatibility. This is the reason to choose the 350 RTK. DJI lists the Zenmuse H30, H30T, H20, H20T, H20N, L2, L1, P1, S1 and V1 as supported on the Matrice 350 RTK. For the Matrice 400, DJI lists the Zenmuse L3, H30, H30T, L2 and P1 cameras, plus the S1 spotlight and V1 speaker. H20-series and L1 owners should check before they switch.

Who each one is for

  • Matrice 400: new programs in utility inspection, LiDAR mapping with the Zenmuse L3 or Zenmuse L2, large-scale public safety, and anyone carrying heavy or custom payloads.
  • Matrice 350 RTK: fleets that already run TB65 batteries and H20-series or L1 payloads, and teams that want to stay on a proven platform.

What to check before you buy

  • Your payloads. List the cameras, LiDAR and accessories you own or plan to buy, and confirm each is supported.
  • Charging. The Matrice 400 uses TB100 batteries and the BS100 station, which charges a TB100 from 0 to 100% in about 45 minutes in fast mode at 220 V. Budget enough battery sets for a full day.
  • Transport. The Matrice 400 folds to 490 × 490 × 480 mm but weighs nearly 10 kg with its battery.
  • Rules. Both are under 55 lb, so they fly under Part 107 with standard registration. See Part 107.

Quick answers

Which is better for thermal? Both carry the Zenmuse H30T. The Matrice 400 flies longer with it.

Are both available in the US? Yes. Both were authorized before the FCC's December 2025 cutoff. See is DJI banned in the US.
