The DJI Mavic 4 Pro's top speed is 25 m/s, which is 90 km/h or about 56 mph, in Sport mode at sea level with no wind. DJI also measured 27 m/s (97.2 km/h, about 60 mph) with a 2 m/s tailwind. Both are wind-tunnel figures. Obstacle sensing is off in Sport mode, so top speed is for open sky only.

Mavic 4 Pro speeds
| Measure | m/s | km/h | mph |
|---|---|---|---|
| Max speed, Sport mode, no wind | 25 | 90 | 55.9 |
| Max speed, Sport, 2 m/s tailwind | 27 | 97.2 | 60.4 |
| Max speed while tracking | 15 | 54 | 33.6 |
| Max speed with sensing effective | 18 | 64.8 | 40.3 |
| Max climb, Sport | 10 | 36 | 22.4 |
| Max climb, Normal and Cine | 6 | 21.6 | 13.4 |
| Max descent, Sport | 10 | 36 | 22.4 |
| Max descent, Normal and Cine | 6 | 21.6 | 13.4 |
Figures are from DJI's Mavic 4 Pro specs. The mph values are our conversions. DJI doesn't publish separate horizontal top speeds for Normal and Cine mode; Cine is Normal mode with a lower speed cap for smoother footage. In the EU, the C position on the switch is a Low Speed mode capped at 2.8 m/s.
Flight modes
The flight mode switch on the DJI RC 2 or RC Pro 2 has three positions: C (Cine), N (Normal) and S (Sport).
- Normal: the everyday mode. Precise hovering, obstacle sensing and intelligent flight modes work.
- Cine: Normal with limited speed for steady shots.
- Sport: higher speed and much more responsive sticks. Obstacle sensing is disabled.
Sport mode safety
From DJI's manual:
- Braking distance: allow at least 30 m in still air. Allow 10 m when climbing or descending in Sport or Normal.
- Sensitivity: small stick movements move the drone a long way. Give yourself space.
- No sensing: you must watch for obstacles yourself.
- Footage: video shot in Sport mode may shake.
Speed and obstacle avoidance
DJI says the Mavic 4 Pro's omnidirectional sensing is effective at speeds up to 18 m/s (about 40 mph) forward, backward and sideways, and 6 m/s up and down. That's fast for a camera drone, but above it, or in Sport mode, the drone can't brake for obstacles on its own. See Mavic 4 Pro obstacle avoidance.
Speed and wind
Top speed matters most on the way home. The Mavic 4 Pro is rated for wind up to 12 m/s (about 27 mph). Flying back into a strong headwind cuts ground speed sharply and drains the battery faster. Fly upwind first so the wind helps on the return. See Mavic 4 Pro wind resistance.
Speed and flight time
DJI's 51-minute flight time figure was measured at a steady 32.4 km/h (9 m/s), not at top speed. The 41 km maximum flight distance was measured at 54 km/h. Sport mode burns battery much faster. See Mavic 4 Pro battery life.
The legal limit
Under Part 107, a small drone can't exceed 100 mph (87 knots). The Mavic 4 Pro's top speed is well under that. Recreational flyers follow community safety guidelines and should keep speed in proportion to the space around them. Whatever the mode, stay within visual line of sight and at or below 400 ft. See Part 107.
