The DJI Mini 3 doesn't have a Night mode. Its video modes are standard only, with ISO up to 3200. It still does well at dusk thanks to a bright f/1.7 lens and dual native ISOs of 100 and 800. You can legally fly a Mini 3 at night in the US if the drone has lighting that shows its position and orientation, but it only senses obstacles below it, so night flights need extra care. It has no thermal or night vision camera.

What the Mini 3 can do in low light
- f/1.7 aperture: one of the brightest lenses on a DJI drone.
- 1/1.3-inch sensor with large pixels for its size.
- Dual native ISO 100 and 800: DJI recommends ISO 800 in low light when shooting 48 to 60 fps. At 24 to 30 fps the sensor blends both for more dynamic range.
- Max ISO 3200 for video and photos.
That makes twilight, blue hour and lit city streets very usable. Full darkness away from lights is beyond what it can capture cleanly.
Best low-light video settings
- Resolution: 4K at 24 or 25 fps.
- Shutter: 1/50. Going slower adds blur; going faster darkens the image.
- ISO: start at 800, then raise toward 3200 only if needed. Noise grows fast above 1600.
- White balance: fixed, about 3200K to 4500K under streetlights.
- Flight: Cine mode, slow moves. Fast pans smear in low light.
- Exposure: keep bright lights from clipping. Dark areas can be lifted a little; blown highlights can't be fixed.
Best low-light photo settings
- 12 MP RAW (DNG) rather than 48 MP. Larger effective pixels mean less noise.
- ISO 100 to 800 with a longer shutter. The Mini 3's slowest shutter is 2 seconds.
- Hover in calm air and wait a second before shooting.
- AEB (3 frames) for bright signs against a dark sky.
Night flying limits on the Mini 3
- No forward, rear or side sensing. The Mini 3 has a downward vision system only, and it needs light and texture to work. DJI's manual warns it's limited over very dark surfaces.
- GPS still works, so the drone holds position and can return home, but RTH flies a straight line at your set altitude without avoiding obstacles.
- Set RTH altitude above every tree, pole and building before takeoff.
- Scout in daylight and keep the flight path simple.
The rules for flying a Mini 3 at night
- Recreational: night flying is allowed if the drone has lighting that lets you see its location and orientation. The Mini 3's small status lights may not be enough; many pilots add a light strobe. Check the total weight if you rely on staying under 250 g.
- Part 107: you need current training and anti-collision lighting visible for 3 statute miles, and the drone must be registered.
- Airspace and TFRs apply day or night. Check B4UFLY or a LAANC app before you fly.

Want a real Night mode?
The Mini 4 Pro adds a Night video mode with ISO up to 12800 and omnidirectional obstacle sensing. See Mini 4 Pro night mode and Mini 3 vs Mini 4 Pro.
