The DJI Neo's camera is good for social clips, vlogs and selfies, not for professional aerial footage. It records 4K/30 and 1080p/60 at up to 75 Mbps from a 1/2-inch 12 MP sensor, with a single-axis gimbal plus electronic stabilization. In good daylight it looks sharp and clean on a phone; in low light, wind or fast motion, you'll see its limits.

The camera at a glance
- Sensor: 1/2-inch, 12 MP stills (4000×3000 in 4:3).
- Lens: 14 mm equivalent, 117.6° field of view, f/2.8, focus from 0.6 m.
- Video: 4K/30 (16:9 with stabilization, 4:3 without), 1080p at 30, 50 or 60 fps, vertical 1080p up to 60 fps.
- Bitrate: 75 Mbps.
- Color: Normal only. No D-Log M or HLG.
- Stabilization: a tilt-only mechanical gimbal plus RockSteady or HorizonBalancing EIS.
- Photos: JPEG only.
Video quality
In sunlight, 4K/30 looks crisp, with punchy color straight out of the drone. The wide 117.6° view fits you and the scenery in selfie shots and makes speed feel fast in FPV.
Things to expect:
- Stabilization: EIS crops the frame and works well for follow shots. Only HorizonBalancing is available when you fly with the DJI Fly app or some accessories.
- Wind: at 135 g, the Neo gets pushed around. DJI rates it for winds up to 8 m/s. Gusts can show as wobble.
- Dynamic range: there's no HDR video mode or log profile, so bright skies can clip.
- Low light: the small sensor gets noisy as light fades. See Neo night mode.
For FPV, record 4:3 with stabilization off and use Gyroflow later. DJI says this footage supports offline stabilization in Gyroflow.
Photo quality
12 MP JPEGs are fine for social posts and group shots. Without RAW, you have less room to fix exposure or white balance later, so get it right in camera. Use the full 4:3 frame for the most detail.
Audio
The Neo can record audio through the DJI Fly app using your phone's mic, a DJI Mic 2 or DJI Mic, or Bluetooth earphones. DJI added a natural noise reduction option in a November 2024 firmware update. The drone itself is loud, so a wireless mic on you gives much cleaner voice.
How it compares
| Drone | Best for |
|---|---|
| Neo | Selfies, vlogs, indoor and FPV practice |
| Flip | Better camera and 3-axis gimbal, still under 250 g |
| Mini 5 Pro | Best image quality under 250 g |
The Neo is about convenience: palm takeoff, propeller guards and no controller needed. If image quality matters most, step up. Compare in Neo vs Flip.
Tips for better Neo footage
- Wipe the lens before every flight.
- Fly in good light, with the sun behind or beside you.
- Use 4K/30 for detail, 1080p/60 for motion.
- Keep moves slow and smooth.
- Lock exposure in steady light to avoid brightness shifts.
