The best DJI Neo video setting for most people is 4K/30 in 16:9 with RockSteady stabilization and auto exposure. Use 1080p/60 for faster action or smoother slow motion in editing. If you fly FPV with goggles, record 4:3 with stabilization off and stabilize later in Gyroflow. Set an RTH altitude above nearby trees and buildings whenever you fly with a controller.

What the Neo camera can do
- Sensor: 1/2-inch, 12 MP photos, f/2.8, 117.6° field of view.
- Video: 4K/30 (16:9 with stabilization, or 4:3 without), 1080p at 30, 50 or 60 fps, and 1080p vertical (9:16) at up to 60 fps.
- Bitrate: up to 75 Mbps, MP4.
- Color: Normal only. There's no D-Log M or HLG.
- ISO: 100 to 6400, auto or manual.
- Shutter: 1/8000 to 1/30 s for video, to 1/10 s for photos.
- Photos: JPEG only, single or timed.
Video settings
| Setting | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| Resolution | 4K/30 for detail, 1080p/60 for motion |
| Aspect ratio | 16:9 for normal video, 9:16 for vertical |
| Stabilization | RockSteady for walking and following, HorizonBalancing for level horizons |
| Exposure | Auto for vlogging; manual ISO 100 in steady light |
| White balance | Auto is fine; lock it for long clips |
Stabilization notes from DJI: when you fly with the DJI Fly app or with some accessories, only HorizonBalancing is available and it can't be turned off. In immersive flight with goggles you can choose RockSteady, HorizonBalancing, or off. In 4:3, stabilization isn't available at all, but the footage includes data for Gyroflow.
ISO and shutter
The f/2.8 lens is fixed and DJI doesn't sell ND filters for the Neo, so in bright sun manual exposure means a fast shutter. That's fine for vlogs and selfies. For smoother motion blur in FPV clips, see Neo ND filters. Keep ISO low in daylight; the small sensor gets noisy quickly as ISO rises.
RTH and safety settings
RTH only works when you fly with a remote control device: the RC-N3, the RC Motion 3 or the FPV Remote Controller 3. It isn't supported in Palm Control or Mobile App Control, where the Neo is limited to 30 m height and 50 m distance.
- RTH altitude: the default is 30 m. Set it above the tallest obstacle on your route in DJI Fly before every flight.
- Signal lost action (goggles): set it to Return to Home, Descend or Hover in the goggles menu before takeoff.
- No obstacle avoidance: the Neo only has downward sensing, so RTH won't steer around trees.
FPV settings: Manual mode, rates and expo
With DJI Goggles 3 or N3, you can fly the Neo with the RC Motion 3 or the FPV Remote Controller 3.
- Motion controller: Normal and Sport modes, head tracking, and Easy ACRO (slide, 180° drift, flips and rolls). Adjust Gain Tuning in the goggles under Settings, Control. Easy ACRO needs 35% battery, 1.5 m height and wind under 4 m/s, and can't be started while recording; enable it first.
- FPV Remote Controller 3: Normal, Sport and Manual mode. Manual mode is off by default. Tighten the throttle stick screws so it doesn't recenter, then set the custom mode to Manual in the goggles.
DJI calls the Neo an entry-level Manual mode drone. It's good for practicing throttle control and level flight, but DJI warns against power loops, dives, Split-S and yaw spins because the motors can't recover. Don't expect Betaflight-style rate and expo tuning; learn acro in a simulator first. See FPV flight modes.
Photo settings
Use 4:3 for the full 12 MP image. Shoot in good light, since JPEG gives limited room for editing.
