Why is my DJI drone or controller beeping?

UPDATED OCTOBER 2026

A DJI drone or controller beeps to get your attention. A short chirp from the drone when it powers on is normal: that's the motor controllers (ESCs) starting up. A drone beeping on the ground is usually Find My Drone or linking mode. A controller beeps when DJI Fly has a warning, during Return to Home, and when its own battery is low. Goggles that beep nonstop are in linking mode. Read the message in DJI Fly or the goggles to know which.

Which beep is it?
Beep meanings from DJI's Mini 3, Mini 4 Pro and Goggles 3 manuals. The controller beeps to point you at a warning in the app.

Drone beeps

  • At power-on: DJI's manuals ask you to check that the ESCs sound normal when powered on. A short chirp means they're working.
  • Linking: when you link a Mini 3 to its controller, DJI says the drone beeps once when it's ready to link and twice when linking succeeds.
  • Find My Drone: in DJI Fly you can make a lost drone beep through its motors to locate it. On the Mini 3 the status light blinks red slowly while it beeps. Turn it off in the same menu.
  • During a firmware update: DJI's Avata 2 manual says it's normal for the drone to reboot and beep during an update.

Controller beeps

DJI's Mini 3 and Mini 4 Pro manuals explain:

  • The controller beeps when there's an error or warning. Check DJI Fly or the touchscreen.
  • It sounds an alert during Return to Home, which can't be cancelled.
  • It sounds a low battery alert at 6 to 10%, which you can silence with the power button, and a critical alert below 5%, which you can't.
  • On the DJI RC, it beeps and powers off after a long time disconnected from the drone with no input.
  • Pressing and holding the RTH button until it beeps starts RTH.

Mute it: on the DJI RC or DJI RC 2, slide down from the top of the screen and tap Mute to silence all alerts, or set the volume to 0 to silence some. The RTH and critical battery alerts are there for safety.

DJI Goggles 3 beeping

DJI's Goggles 3 manual says the goggles beep continuously while in linking mode and stop once linking with the drone or controller completes. If they won't stop, finish the linking steps or restart the goggles. Other goggle beeps point to a warning on screen.

Drone not beeping

If your Neo, Mini 3 or Mini 4 Pro powers on with no chirp and won't start its motors, it may have an ESC or motor fault, or the battery isn't seated. Reseat the battery and restart. If DJI Fly then shows an ESC or motor warning, see DJI ESC error and motor not spinning. If it won't power on at all, read DJI drone won't turn on.

Odd sounds from the controller

DJI says slight creaks when you press the controller hard are normal manufacturing tolerances. A sharp rattle when you shake it means something is loose inside; send it in for inspection.

Keeps beeping?

Repeated controller beeps usually mean a warning you haven't dealt with, such as weak GPS, low battery or a lost link. Our DJI drone troubleshooting guide covers the common ones, and DJI low battery warning explains the battery alerts.
