A DJI barometer error means the air pressure sensor the drone uses to measure height changes is giving readings the flight controller doesn't trust. Without it, the drone may not hold its altitude, and its height display can be wrong. Land, restart, and update firmware. If the warning comes back, or the drone climbs and sinks on its own while hovering, stop flying and contact DJI.

What the barometer does
Air pressure drops as you climb. A barometer measures that pressure, and the flight controller turns small changes into height changes. DJI combines it with GNSS and, near the ground, the downward vision and infrared sensors to hold altitude and to show your height above the takeoff point in DJI Fly. DJI's help center describes the altitude used for routes on its Agras drones as a fused relative altitude from the barometer, and the same idea applies to camera drones.
DJI doesn't publish a dedicated consumer-drone article for barometer errors. Its Agras troubleshooting guide does link unstable hovering and sudden altitude changes, with no stick input, to a likely defective barometer. That's the symptom to watch for.
What to try
- Land and restart. A one-off warning at power-on can be a glitch. Power off, reseat the battery, and power on again outdoors.
- Keep it still at startup. Let the drone finish its self-test on flat ground before you move it.
- Dry it out. If the drone flew in rain, fog or cloud, or landed in wet grass, power it off and let it dry fully before trying again. Read drone fell in water if it went in.
- Avoid sudden temperature changes. DJI notes that moving gear from cold to warm air causes condensation, which settles once the temperature is steady. Give the drone time to adjust before flying.
- Update firmware for the drone and controller in DJI Fly. See how to update DJI firmware.
- Calibrate the IMU if DJI Fly asks for it too. Sensor warnings often appear together. See DJI IMU error.
Flying with a barometer warning
Don't. If the drone can't trust its height, it can drift up or down while hovering, and automatic functions such as Return to Home and landing rely on altitude. If the warning appears in the air, bring it down manually and keep it low and close on the way.
When it needs repair
Start a repair if the warning returns after a restart and update, if height readings jump around with the drone sitting still, or if it began after a crash or water exposure. The barometer is inside the airframe and isn't a user part. DJI Care Refresh covers crash and water damage if you have a plan.
