The DJI drone with the longest range is the enterprise Matrice 400, rated at 40 km (about 25 mi) of video transmission under FCC rules with its O4 Enterprise Enhanced link. Among consumer camera drones, the Mavic 4 Pro leads at 30 km (18.6 mi) with O4+. The Matrice 4 series follows at 25 km, then the Air 3S, Mini 5 Pro and Mini 4 Pro at 20 km. These are best-case figures. In the US you must keep the drone in visual line of sight anyway.

DJI's published maximums, one way, with no interference or obstacles. CE-region figures are lower; the Matrice 400 is rated 20 km and the Mavic 4 Pro 15 km under CE rules.
Range vs flight distance
Two different numbers get called "range":
- Transmission range is how far the video and control link can reach. That's the table above.
- Max flight distance is how far the drone can fly on one battery. For the Mavic 4 Pro, DJI rates it at 41 km one way in a wind-tunnel test. You'd never fly that far out, because the drone has to come back.
In practice, battery sets your real limit. Plan to turn around well before half your battery is gone, and more in wind.
How far you'll really get
DJI's own environment figures for the Mavic 4 Pro are about 1.5 to 6 km in strong interference (cities) and 6 to 15 km with medium interference (suburbs). The 20 km drones are rated about 1.5 to 4 km in cities and 4 to 10 km in suburbs. Trees, hills and buildings cut range further, since the signal needs a clear path.
To get the most out of any link:
- Keep a clear line between controller and drone.
- Point the controller antennas as the manual shows, flat side toward the drone.
- Fly from high, open ground.
- Avoid crowded Wi-Fi and power lines.

The legal limit
US recreational flyers and Part 107 pilots must keep the drone within visual line of sight. For most camera drones, that's well under a kilometer or two. Flying farther needs an FAA waiver. See can you fly a drone beyond line of sight.
So why pay for range? A stronger link is a steadier link. You get fewer dropouts behind trees, a clearer live view and a safer Return to Home, even at short distances.
Which long-range DJI drone fits you?
- Professional inspection, public safety, heavy payloads: Matrice 400.
- Best camera with the longest consumer range: Mavic 4 Pro.
- Thermal with strong range: Matrice 4T.
- Best value for most people: Air 3S or a Mini at 20 km.
