DJI Goggles 3 won't turn on, charge or activate

UPDATED OCTOBER 2026

DJI Goggles 3 that won't turn on usually just need a charge from a USB PD charger, or the right button press: press the power button once, then press again and hold for two seconds. If they power on but say they're not activated, connect them to your phone with an OTG cable and activate them in DJI Fly with an internet connection.

Goggles 3 troubleshooting
Start with what the goggles are actually doing. Most Goggles 3 problems are charging, the two-step power press or a cable that won't carry data.

Turning them on

Press the power button once to check the battery level. To power on or off, press once, then press again and hold for two seconds. Holding the button for a long time while the goggles are on does something else: it starts linking, and the goggles beep continuously.

Goggles 3 not charging

  • Use a USB PD charger and a good USB-C cable. DJI lists the goggles' maximum input as 9V/3A.
  • Check the LEDs while charging. The four battery LEDs show the charge level. If none light, try another charger and cable before assuming the battery is dead.
  • Room temperature. Charge indoors, not in a hot car or freezing garage.
  • Don't tug the headband. The battery sits in the rear compartment and its wires run through the headband. DJI warns that pulling the headband hard can damage them. If the goggles stopped charging after a hard pull or a drop, that's a likely cause.
  • Long storage. Charge fully, then try again.

Goggles 3 not activated

DJI says the goggles must be activated and updated before first use:

  1. Connect the goggles' USB-C port to your phone using a USB-C OTG cable and a data cable. For an iPhone with a Lightning port, DJI supports MFi-certified Lightning cables.
  2. Open DJI Fly and follow the on-screen prompts to activate and update.
  3. Keep the phone online during activation.

DJI notes the goggles only support standard USB-C protocols. If nothing happens when you connect, a different data cable usually fixes it. Charge-only cables won't work.

Powers on but not working

  • Black screen or no video: check the goggles are set to the right aircraft. Open the menu, select Status, and use Switch if the model is wrong. Then relink. See Avata 2 not connecting to goggles.
  • Blurry image: adjust the diopters and the headband.
  • Odd behavior after an update: restart the goggles, or as a last resort reset them from the goggles menu under Settings > About > Reset to Factory Default. You'll need to relink afterward.
  • "Not using bound device": see DJI not using bound device.

Dead pixel

A single stuck or dark pixel that stays in the same spot on every screen, including the menu, is a display issue, not a setting. Restart and update firmware to rule out a software glitch. If it stays, contact DJI support or start a repair while you're under warranty, and take a photo through the lens to show the problem.

When it's hardware

If the goggles won't charge with two known-good chargers and cables, or won't power on after a full charge, they need service. DJI's own troubleshooting points you to support for power-on problems when the battery has charge. Start with our repair page.
