DJI sells the Mic 2 three ways: 2 TX + 1 RX + Charging Case (two transmitters, one receiver, and a case that stores and charges them), 1 TX + 1 RX (one transmitter and one receiver), and the DJI Mic 2 Transmitter on its own, in Shadow Black or Pearl White. TX means transmitter, the clip-on mic each person wears. RX means receiver, the unit that plugs into your camera, phone or computer. Get the two-transmitter kit for interviews, the single kit for solo creators using a camera, and a lone transmitter if you only record to a phone or Osmo Pocket 3.

What the transmitter (TX) does
- Clips to a collar or attaches with the magnet; DJI says the mic is omnidirectional.
- Has 8 GB of storage, enough for up to 14 hours of 24-bit or 11 hours of 32-bit float audio, so it can record a backup on its own.
- Can connect over Bluetooth directly to a phone, an Osmo Action 4 or an Osmo Pocket 3. The Pocket 3 takes two transmitters at once; phones and the Action 4 take one. DJI notes that noise cancelling and internal recording are off when a transmitter is connected to a phone by Bluetooth.
What the receiver (RX) does
- Links up to two Mic 2 transmitters over 2.4 GHz, with up to 250 m range (FCC, open conditions).
- Outputs to cameras through a 3.5 mm cable, and to phones through the included USB-C or Lightning adapter.
- Records in Stereo, Mono or Mono with a -6 dB safety track.
- Has a headphone port for monitoring and a touchscreen for settings.
Is there a "DJI Mic 2 receiver only"?
DJI's Mic 2 FAQ lists the two kits and the standalone transmitter, not a standalone Mic 2 receiver. If you need just a receiver for a phone, DJI's Mic Series Mobile Receiver plugs into USB-C and accepts up to two Mic 2 transmitters. It has no camera output. See do you need the DJI Mic receiver and how many DJI mics per receiver.
Mic 2 parts aren't compatible with the original DJI Mic's transmitters or receiver.
Is the charging case worth it?
DJI says the case charges two transmitters and the receiver about twice over, and it re-links them when you put them back. With roughly 6 hours per unit, that's about 18 hours of total recording time. If you film long days or travel, get the kit with the case. See DJI Mic 2 battery life.
Mic 2 or Mic Mini?
The DJI Mic Mini is smaller and cheaper but has no internal recording. Compare them in DJI Mic 2 vs Mic Mini. Setup help: how to pair DJI Mic 2 and DJI Mic 2 with a camera.
