Buy the DJI Mic 2 if the audio can't be redone: interviews, client work, events. Each transmitter records a 32-bit float backup, the receiver has a touchscreen and headphone monitoring, and you can plug in a wired lav. Buy the DJI Mic Mini for vlogs and social video: a 10 g transmitter that almost disappears on a collar, 400 m range, about 11.5 hours per charge and $110 less at our prices.

Why the Mic 2 costs more
- Backup recording. Each transmitter can record its own WAV file internally in 32-bit float. If the wireless link drops or someone shouts and clips, you still have a clean copy. See Mic 2 internal recording.
- Touchscreen receiver. Gain, mode, noise cancelling and battery for both mics, right on the camera.
- Headphone port on the receiver to monitor what's going into the camera.
- Lav input on the transmitter for a hidden wired lavalier.
- Lower self-noise: 21 vs 24 dBA. You'll notice it most in quiet rooms when you raise the gain.
Why many people are happier with the Mic Mini
- Size. About 10 g with a magnetic mount. It looks like a button, not a microphone.
- Battery. About twice the runtime per charge and about 48 hours with the case.
- Range. 400 m vs 250 m, measured in open, interference-free conditions.
- Price. Less than half.
What both do
- Plug into cameras with the 3.5 mm cable, and phones with the USB-C or Lightning adapters.
- Connect straight to the Osmo Pocket 3 and Osmo Action cameras without the receiver.
- Connect to a phone over Bluetooth, one transmitter at a time.
- Mono, Stereo and Safety Track output modes. See recording modes.
- Noise cancelling.
Their transmitters and receivers aren't cross-compatible: a Mic Mini transmitter won't pair with a Mic 2 receiver.
