Yes, outside the wilderness areas. Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, west of Las Vegas, is managed by the Bureau of Land Management. The conservation area's visitor FAQ says recreational drone flying is allowed, as long as you don't disturb wildlife or visitors, but launching and landing are prohibited in the La Madre Mountain and Rainbow Mountain wilderness areas, which cover much of the escarpment. The busy Scenic Drive and climbing areas are also poor places to fly.

Why Red Rock is different from other BLM land
- Wilderness. The La Madre Mountain and Rainbow Mountain wilderness areas cover much of the escarpment. Federal law bans landing aircraft in wilderness, and that includes drones. See drones in wilderness areas.
- Conservation area rules. The BLM can set supplementary rules for a national conservation area, and Red Rock has rules on use of the Scenic Drive, trails and picnic areas. Ask the visitor center if you're unsure about a launch spot.
- Climbers. Red Rock is one of the most popular climbing areas in the country. A drone near a rope team is dangerous and distracting.
- Wildlife. Desert tortoises, bighorn sheep and raptors live here.
Airspace and Nevada law
Red Rock is close to Las Vegas, with Class B airspace over the valley. Nevada law (NRS 493.109) also makes it a misdemeanor to fly within 5 miles of an airport without the operator's consent or FAA authorization. Check B4UFLY or Aloft and request LAANC approval where needed. See Nevada drone laws and Las Vegas drone laws.

Before you fly
- Pass the TRUST test.
- Register drones of 250 g or more with the FAA.
- Confirm the land manager and wilderness boundaries.
- Stay at or below 400 ft, in sight, and away from climbers.
Summer heat in the Mojave can push batteries past safe temperatures, so fly early and keep batteries shaded. For desert color, the 249 g DJI Mini 5 Pro needs no recreational registration.
Rules current as of October 2026. This is general information, not legal advice.
