How to link (pair) a DJI controller to your drone

UPDATED OCTOBER 2026

To pair (link) a DJI controller: power on the drone and controller, open DJI Fly, go to the camera view, tap settings > Control > Re-pair to Aircraft, then press and hold the drone's power button for more than four seconds. The drone beeps and its battery LEDs blink in sequence. The controller beeps twice when it's linked. Keep the controller within 0.5 m of the drone. Controllers bought in a combo come already linked.

Link a DJI controller
From DJI's Mini 4 Pro, Mini 5 Pro, Neo, Flip and Air 3 manuals. On the RC 2 with the Mini 5 Pro, the menu item is Connect to Aircraft.

Step by step (RC-N3, RC-N2, DJI RC 2)

  1. Power on the drone and the controller. On most models: press the power button once, then press and hold.
  2. RC-N3 / RC-N2: connect your phone and open DJI Fly. DJI RC 2: DJI Fly is built in.
  3. In the camera view, tap the settings icon, then Control.
  4. Tap Re-pair to Aircraft. The controller starts beeping. (Older menus call it Pair to Aircraft (Link), and the Mini 5 Pro's RC 2 menu says Connect to Aircraft.)
  5. Press and hold the drone's power button for more than 4 seconds until it beeps and the battery LEDs blink in sequence.
  6. Wait for the controller's two beeps. On the RC 2, the status LED turns solid green.

Linking a new controller unlinks the old one from that drone.

Model notes

Drone Notes from DJI's manual
Mini 4 Pro, Mini 3, Air 3 Control > Re-pair to Aircraft (Mini 3: Pair to Aircraft), hold drone power 4+ s
Mini 5 Pro RC-N3: Re-pair to Aircraft. RC 2: Connect to Aircraft. Status LED blinks blue while linking
Neo Re-pair to Aircraft, or DJI Fly home screen: Connection Guide > Connect with RC Only
Flip Re-pair to Aircraft, hold drone power 4+ s
Avata 2 Links to goggles, not a phone controller: hold the drone's and goggles' power buttons (about 5 s)

Avata 2 and other goggle drones

The Avata 2 pairs in two steps, with each device within 0.5 m:

  1. Drone to goggles: press and hold the drone's power button until it beeps and the LEDs blink in sequence, then do the same on the goggles until they beep continuously.
  2. Goggles to RC Motion 3 (or FPV controller): hold the goggles' power button, then the controller's, until both beep. They stop beeping when linked.

DJI says to update everything first, and that a drone can be flown by only one control device at a time. Turn the others off. More in DJI Goggles 3 binding.

Neo: phone vs controller

The Neo connects to a phone over Wi-Fi with no pairing: Connection Guide > Connect via Mobile Device, then hold the Neo's power button the first time. To fly with an RC-N3, link it as above. Power off other connected devices first. See Neo app.

Linking failed? Try this

  1. Get closer: within 0.5 m.
  2. Activate first. New drones and controllers must be activated in DJI Fly with internet.
  3. Update firmware on both. DJI Fly can't update a drone that isn't linked, so use DJI Assistant 2 on a computer if needed.
  4. Hold the power button long enough, past the first beep, until the LEDs run in sequence.
  5. Turn off other controllers and goggles that were linked before.
  6. Check compatibility. Not every controller works with every drone. Check the drone's FAQ and release notes on dji.com for the supported list.
  7. Restart everything and try again.

Still won't link? See DJI drone not connecting to controller, or contact DJI support or our repair team.

Why linking matters for warranty

DJI ties warranty and DJI Care Refresh service to the drone being activated and bound to your account. See DJI Care Refresh.

Need a controller? The DJI RC-N3 uses your phone as the screen; the DJI RC 2 has its own bright screen. Check your drone's compatibility first.
