The DJI Matrice 400 flies on one TB100 battery at a time. Each TB100 is a 977 Wh pack that weighs about 4.7 kg and gives up to 59 minutes of flight with an H30T in DJI's test. For a full day of continuous flying, most teams need at least three batteries in rotation, more on 110 V power or in the cold. For a short job close to the truck, two can be enough.

TB100 specs
| Spec | TB100 |
|---|---|
| Capacity | 20,254 mAh |
| Voltage | 48.23 V (13S Li-ion) |
| Energy | 977 Wh |
| Weight | 4,720 ± 20 g |
| Charging temperature | 5° to 45° C (41° to 113° F) |
| Cycle count | 400 |
| Self-heating | Yes, in the aircraft, on its own, and in the station |
DJI lists the aircraft at 5,020 g without its battery and 9,740 g with it. The difference is a single TB100.
How long it lasts
DJI rates the Matrice 400 at up to 59 minutes of flight and 53 minutes of hover, carrying only an H30T, at sea level with no wind. With the AP100 parachute added, flight time drops to about 53 minutes. Heavier payloads, wind, cold and high altitude all cut that number. Time a few real missions with your payload, then plan around that number with a reserve.
Charging with the BS100
The BS100 Intelligent Battery Station has channels for three TB100 and two WB37 controller batteries. DJI's charge times for a TB100 from 0 to 100%:
- 220 V, Fast Charging Mode: 45 minutes
- 110 V, Fast Charging Mode: 70 minutes
- Silent Mode: 110 minutes
It also offers Ready-to-Fly Mode (charges to 90%) and Standard Mode (100%). Charging on 220 V power or a suitable generator makes a big difference to how many batteries you need.
How many batteries to buy
A simple rule: a battery needs to fly, cool down, and charge before it's needed again. DJI says not to charge a battery right after a flight while it's still hot.
| Situation | Suggested TB100 count |
|---|---|
| One or two flights, short job | 2 |
| All-day work on 220 V | 3 |
| All-day work on 110 V | 3 to 4 |
| Cold weather or remote site | 4 or more |
These are planning estimates from DJI's flight and charge times, not DJI recommendations. Track your own flight lengths for a week, then adjust.
Care, storage and travel
- Cold: TB100s can't be used below -20° C (-4° F). Self-heating starts automatically in the aircraft, or press and hold the battery's power button to start it manually.
- Storage: charge each battery fully at least once every three months. DJI says a battery not charged or discharged for three months or more is no longer covered by warranty.
- Transport: DJI recommends discharging to 30% or lower before transport.
- Air travel: at 977 Wh, a TB100 is far above the 160 Wh limit for lithium batteries in airline passenger baggage. Ship batteries as dangerous goods or drive.
- Charging temperature: DJI's ideal is 22° to 28° C. Charging stops if cells exceed 55° C.
Batteries for other Matrice models
The Matrice 350 RTK uses a different pair-based system: two TB65 batteries with hot swapping. TB65s don't fit the Matrice 400. Compare the two airframes in Matrice 350 RTK vs Matrice 400, or read our full Matrice 400 guide.
