Get the Mavic 3 Classic ($1,407) if one excellent camera is enough: it has the same 4/3 Hasselblad 20 MP main camera as the Mavic 3 Pro, flies 3 minutes longer and costs $1,012 less. Get the Mavic 3 Pro ($2,419) if you'll use telephoto: it adds a 70 mm 48 MP camera and a 166 mm 12 MP camera, so you can frame wide, medium and long shots from one position. Both weigh over 250 g and need FAA registration.

Prices are our current prices. Specs are DJI's published figures. The Pro's standard kit already includes the DJI RC screen controller.
The key differences
Telephoto cameras. This is the whole difference in image capture. The Mavic 3 Pro's 70 mm camera gives compressed, cinematic shots where the background looks closer, and the 166 mm camera lets you film wildlife, events or details on a building from a distance without flying close. With the Classic, you'd have to fly closer or crop.
Main camera. Identical. Both use the 4/3 Hasselblad sensor with an adjustable f/2.8 to f/11 aperture, 5.1K video and DCI 4K up to 120 fps. Wide shots look the same from either drone.
Flight time and weight. The extra cameras add about 63 g and cost about 3 minutes of rated flight: 46 minutes for the Classic, 43 for the Pro.
Price. The Pro costs $1,012 more for the standard kit, but that kit includes the DJI RC screen controller, which the Classic's standard kit doesn't. If you'd buy a screen controller anyway, the real gap is smaller.
ProRes. DJI's Apple ProRes recording is only on the Mavic 3 Pro Cine version, not the standard Mavic 3 Pro we sell. Both record H.264 and H.265, with 10-bit D-Log, D-Log M and HLG on the main camera.
Who each one is for
- Mavic 3 Classic: landscape and real estate photographers, travel filmmakers on a budget, and anyone who mostly shoots wide.
- Mavic 3 Pro: filmmakers who want varied shots per flight, wildlife and event shooters who need distance, and inspection work where a tele lens saves flying close.
What about the Mavic 4 Pro?
The Mavic 4 Pro is the same $2,419 as the Mavic 3 Pro with a 100 MP 4/3 main camera, 6K video, 51 minutes of flight and forward LiDAR. Our stock is limited because DJI never launched it on its US store. If you can get one, it's the stronger buy at that price. See Mavic 3 Pro vs Mavic 4 Pro.
Common mistakes
- Buying the Pro and never switching lenses. If you shoot wide 90% of the time, the Classic is the better value.
- Expecting 4/3 quality from the tele cameras. They use smaller sensors, so low-light performance drops at 70 mm and 166 mm.
- Forgetting ND filters. Even with an adjustable aperture, ND filters help keep motion blur natural in bright light.
Quick answers
Do both need registration? Yes, both are over 250 g. Register for $5 and fly with Remote ID on.
