The DJI Mavic 4 Pro is worth it if you're paid for aerial images or you'll actually use its three cameras: it has the biggest sensor and the most flexible camera system of any folding DJI drone, plus a 51-minute rated flight time. It's not worth it for most hobby pilots, who get most of the result from an Air 3S at about half the price. In the US, factor in one extra catch: DJI didn't officially launch it here, so check warranty service and US Care Refresh with us before you buy.

This is our assessment from DJI's published specs and what we see customers choose. We haven't run a months-long field test, and we don't quote reviews we can't verify.

Where it's clearly better
- Image quality. DJI claims up to 15.5 stops of dynamic range from the main camera in D-Log. A 4/3 sensor with an adjustable aperture gives real control in bright light and at sunset.
- Three focal lengths. 28, 70 and 168 mm cover landscape, portrait-style compression and long-range detail without moving the drone closer. See Mavic 4 Pro zoom.
- Flight time and range. 51 minutes rated means fewer battery swaps on a job. The O4+ link is DJI's strongest consumer transmission.
- Night safety. Omnidirectional sensing works down to about 0.1 lux, and the forward LiDAR covers darker scenes for braking and Smart RTH.
- Creative gimbal. Roll moves and upward shots that other DJI drones can't do.
The downsides
- Price. About twice the Air 3S.
- Weight. Over 250 g, so registration and Remote ID are required for every flight, hobby or not.
- Care Refresh isn't a given. Coverage varies by model, so ask us whether a US plan is available. If not, you'll want hull insurance. See Mavic 4 Pro protection.
- US status. It's FCC authorized and legal to buy and fly, and firmware updates for authorized drones are allowed through January 1, 2029. But it isn't on DJI's official US lineup, and since September 2026 imported drones carry a Section 232 tariff. See is DJI banned in the US.
- Pro features cost more. H.264 ALL-I 4:2:2 recording needs the 512 GB Creator Combo version.
- Third-party apps. It isn't supported by DJI's Mobile SDK, so mapping and mission apps can't fly it. See Mavic 4 Pro mapping.

Our verdict
Buy the Mavic 4 Pro if you shoot real estate, film, tourism or brand work where the 4/3 sensor and tele cameras show up in the final product, or if night and city flying are a big part of what you do. Buy an Air 3S if you travel, fly for fun, or want DJI Care Refresh. If you're not sure, our drone finder asks five questions and points you to a model.
