Yes. The DJI Mavic 3 Pro has a follow-me mode called FocusTrack, with three modes: ActiveTrack follows a moving subject, Spotlight keeps the camera locked on a subject while you fly, and Point of Interest circles a subject. ActiveTrack follows people, vehicles and boats at up to 12 m/s (about 27 mph) and works up to 3x zoom, which means the 24 mm Hasselblad camera or the 70 mm medium tele. The 166 mm tele camera can only track static subjects.

The three FocusTrack modes
| Mode | What it does | Subjects |
|---|---|---|
| ActiveTrack | Follows at a set distance and height, in Trace or Parallel | Moving people, vehicles, boats |
| Spotlight | You fly; the camera stays locked on the subject | Static or moving |
| Point of Interest | Circles the subject at a set radius and speed, up to 12 m/s | Static or moving |
Trace follows from a set direction (the default is behind) and holds that angle as the subject moves. Parallel flies alongside at a constant angle and distance.
Which camera you can track with
From DJI's manual:
- ActiveTrack: moving subjects up to 3x zoom, so the Hasselblad camera and the 70 mm medium tele.
- Spotlight and POI: the Hasselblad and medium tele cameras handle moving and static subjects. The 166 mm tele camera only supports static subjects.
Follow distances
| Subject | Hasselblad camera | Medium tele camera | Altitude |
|---|---|---|---|
| People | 4 to 20 m (best 5 to 10 m) | 7 to 20 m | 2 to 20 m (best 2 to 10 m) |
| Vehicles and boats | 6 to 100 m (best 20 to 50 m) | 16 to 100 m | 6 to 100 m (best 10 to 50 m) |
If you start outside these ranges, the drone moves into range first.
How to start tracking
- Take off.
- Drag a box around the subject in DJI Fly, or turn on Subject Scanning in the control settings and tap a recognized subject.
- Spotlight starts by default. Tap to switch to Point of Interest or ActiveTrack.
- For ActiveTrack, pick Trace or Parallel and set the direction. For POI, set direction and speed, then tap GO.
- Press the Flight Pause button to exit.
While tracking, the roll stick circles the subject, pitch changes distance, throttle changes height and yaw adjusts framing.
Obstacles
In Point of Interest and ActiveTrack, the Pro bypasses obstacles regardless of your avoidance setting, as long as the vision systems are working. In Spotlight it hovers when it detects an obstacle. Sensing is off in Sport mode. See Mavic 3 Pro obstacle avoidance.
When FocusTrack isn't available
- In Explore mode.
- When recording 5.1K, 120fps and above, or Apple ProRes on the Cine version.
- On the ground, or with DJI Goggles.
- Near flight limits or in GEO zones (it may not work properly).
- In low light, ActiveTrack is off. Spotlight and POI still work on static subjects, without obstacle sensing.
Tips
- Use the 70 mm camera for tighter, more cinematic follow shots with background compression.
- Track in open areas; avoid thin branches, power lines, water and glass.
- DJI advises against tracking remote-control models, and says subjects can swap if they pass close together.
- Stay in control and keep the drone in line of sight.
