Can you map with the DJI Mavic 3 Pro? Photogrammetry and LiDAR questions

UPDATED OCTOBER 2026

Not as a professional mapping tool. The DJI Mavic 3 Pro has no LiDAR: it senses obstacles with vision cameras plus an infrared sensor underneath. It flies with the DJI Fly app, which has waypoints but no automated grid-mapping missions, and it has no RTK option. You can build small, informal 3D models from its photos, but for surveys and measurements choose an enterprise drone.

Mavic 3 Pro for mapping
The Mavic 3 Pro senses obstacles with cameras and a downward infrared sensor, not LiDAR. For real mapping, use an enterprise drone.

Does the Mavic 3 Pro have LiDAR?

No. DJI describes its sensing as an omnidirectional binocular vision system with an infrared sensor on the bottom. The infrared sensor helps with height near the ground. None of it records data you can export or use for mapping.

If you saw "Mavic LiDAR" elsewhere, it's probably the Mavic 4 Pro or Air 3S, which have a forward-facing LiDAR for night obstacle sensing. That isn't a mapping LiDAR either. See Mavic 4 Pro mapping.

Why it isn't a mapping drone

  • App. DJI Fly is built for photo and video. Its Waypoint Flight lets you save and repeat a route, but there's no tool to plan a lawnmower grid with set overlap and ground resolution. Check a mapping app's own supported-drone list before assuming it works with the Mavic 3 Pro.
  • No RTK. Positions come from standard GPS, Galileo and BeiDou. Fine for pictures, not for centimeter-level work.
  • No mechanical shutter listed. Enterprise mapping drones use one to avoid distortion when shooting on the move. DJI doesn't list one for the Mavic 3 Pro.

What you can do with a Mavic 3 Pro

  • Small 3D models. Fly manual orbits around a house or structure at two or three heights with overlapping 20 MP photos from the Hasselblad camera, then process them in photogrammetry software. Scale and accuracy aren't guaranteed.
  • Repeatable progress shots. Waypoint Flight can fly the same route each visit, useful for construction updates.
  • Detail inspection photos. The 70 mm and 166 mm cameras let you see details from a safer distance, for informal checks.

Any of this done for pay needs a Part 107 certificate. See Part 107.
