Yes. At 1,063 g, the DJI Mavic 4 Pro must be registered with the FAA ($5, valid 3 years), and it broadcasts Remote ID, which is built in. The pilot needs the free TRUST certificate for recreational flying, or a Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate for any business use. And yes, it's legal to fly in the US, even though DJI never officially launched it here.

Is the Mavic 4 Pro legal in the US?
Yes. It was FCC-authorized before the FCC's December 2025 Covered List decision, which blocks only new DJI models. Already-authorized drones remain legal to own and fly. See Mavic 4 Pro in the USA and is DJI banned in the US.
Registration: always required
Anything at 250 g or more must be registered, and the Mavic 4 Pro is over four times that.
- Recreational: one registration number covers all your hobby drones. Add the Mavic 4 Pro's serial number for Remote ID.
- Part 107: register each drone separately, with its serial number.
- Mark the number on the outside of the drone.
Full steps in FAA registration. See Mavic 4 Pro Remote ID for the serial number.
Recreational pilots: TRUST
If you fly purely for fun:
- Pass the free TRUST test and carry proof. See TRUST test.
- Follow a community-based organization's safety guidelines.
- Stay at or below 400 ft above the ground in uncontrolled airspace.
- Get LAANC or DroneZone authorization before flying in controlled airspace. See LAANC explained.
- Keep it in visual line of sight, and don't fly over people or moving vehicles.
Business use: Part 107
Client shoots, real estate, weddings, selling footage, or videos for your own business all count. You need a Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate:
- Pass the FAA knowledge test at an approved test center (minimum age 16).
- Do free recurrent online training every 24 months.
- Fly at or below 400 ft AGL (or within 400 ft of a structure), under 100 mph, in line of sight, yielding to manned aircraft.
Start with Part 107.
Night flying
Allowed for both groups with proper lighting. Part 107 pilots need current training and anti-collision lighting visible for 3 statute miles. The Mavic 4 Pro's front LEDs and status lights aren't sold as meeting that, so add a strobe. See Mavic 4 Pro lights.
Does its size change anything?
- Over people: at this weight it isn't eligible for Part 107's lightest category (0.55 lb and under). Plan not to fly over people.
- Abroad: in Europe the Mavic 4 Pro is C2 certified, which comes with its own pilot competency rules. See traveling with a drone.
Where you can't fly
- National parks, without a special permit.
- TFRs, and anywhere near wildfires.
- Controlled airspace without authorization.
Check B4UFLY or Aloft before every flight, and read drone no-fly zones.
Rules current as of October 2026. This is general information, not legal advice.
