The DJI Mini 3 has a maximum video transmission range of 10 km (6.2 miles) under FCC rules, which apply in the US, with no obstructions or interference. In Europe (CE) it's 6 km (3.7 mi). Its maximum flight distance on one standard battery is 18 km (11.2 mi), or 25 km with the Battery Plus, measured one way. In the US you must keep it within your own visual line of sight, which for a drone this small is usually a few hundred yards.

Range numbers, in km and miles
| Measure | km | miles |
|---|---|---|
| Video range, FCC (US) | 10 | 6.2 |
| Video range, CE/SRRC/MIC | 6 | 3.7 |
| Max flight distance, standard battery | 18 | 11.2 |
| Max flight distance, Battery Plus | 25 | 15.5 |
| Urban, strong interference (FCC) | 1.5 to 3 | 0.9 to 1.9 |
| Suburban, medium interference (FCC) | 3 to 6 | 1.9 to 3.7 |
| Suburb or seaside, low interference (FCC) | 6 to 10 | 3.7 to 6.2 |
These are DJI's reference values for its O2 transmission, not guarantees. The flight distance was measured at a steady 43.2 km/h until the battery ran out, so it isn't a round trip. DJI also notes the Mini 3 doesn't support enhanced (4G) transmission.
Top speed and wind resistance in km/h
| Measure | m/s | km/h | mph |
|---|---|---|---|
| Top speed, Sport mode | 16 | 57.6 | 35.8 |
| Normal mode | 10 | 36 | 22.4 |
| Cine mode | 6 | 21.6 | 13.4 |
| Max wind speed resistance | 10.7 | 38.5 | 23.9 |
DJI rates wind resistance at 10.7 m/s, Level 5. Conversions are ours. See Mini 3 top speed and Mini 3 wind resistance.
What limits range in practice
- Obstructions. Trees, hills and buildings block the signal. Fly high enough to keep a clear line between you and the drone.
- Interference. Cities are busy on 2.4 and 5.8 GHz. Expect the urban figures there.
- Controller position. DJI's manual says the link is most reliable when the controller is positioned toward the drone. For the DJI RC, with built-in antennas, DJI says to point the top of the controller at the drone. Avoid other devices on the same frequencies nearby.
- Your phone. With the RC-N1, a slow or overheating phone can cause video lag.
- Wind and battery. The Mini 3 is light. Flying out with a tailwind is easy; coming back into it drains the battery.
The legal limit: line of sight
US rules require you, or a visual observer next to you, to see the drone with your own eyes for the whole flight. A sub-250 g drone becomes a speck quickly, so real flights usually stay within a few hundred yards. Beyond visual line of sight needs an FAA waiver. See can you fly a drone beyond line of sight.
So why does range matter? A stronger link gives a steadier feed and fewer dropouts when a tree gets in the way.
If you lose signal
Set the signal-lost action to Return to Home and set RTH altitude above the tallest obstacles before every flight. The Mini 3 can't sense obstacles ahead, so RTH altitude is what keeps it clear of trees on the way back. See Mini 3 home point and drone keeps losing signal.
Mini 3 vs Mini 4 Pro range
The Mini 4 Pro uses DJI's O4 transmission, rated at 20 km FCC, double the Mini 3. For flying in cities or around trees, that stronger link helps. See Mini 3 vs Mini 4 Pro and how far can a drone fly.
Rules current as of October 2026. This is general information, not legal advice.
