The DJI Mini 4 Pro has two kinds of lights: an auxiliary light on the bottom that helps the downward vision sensors in low light, and two aircraft status indicators that show flight system status. It has no anti-collision strobe. The auxiliary light defaults to Auto, which turns it on only in low light when the drone is under about 5 m, so if it "isn't working" it's usually just on Auto. You can set it to On, Off or Auto in DJI Fly.

The auxiliary light
- Where: on the underside of the aircraft, next to the downward sensors.
- What it's for: lighting the ground so the downward vision system can position the drone and land in low light. It isn't a spotlight for filming.
- Default: Auto. DJI's manual says it switches on automatically in low-light conditions when the drone is below 5 m.
- Reset: every time the drone restarts, the setting goes back to Auto.
How to turn the auxiliary light on or off
- In DJI Fly, open Settings > Safety.
- Find Auxiliary LED.
- Choose Auto, On or Off.
DJI says not to turn the Auxiliary LED on before takeoff. Set it once you're in the air if you need it.
Auxiliary light not working
- Check the setting. On Auto in daylight or above 5 m, it stays off. That's normal.
- Set it to On in flight to test it.
- Remember a restart sets it back to Auto.
- Update the aircraft firmware and DJI Fly.
- If it still never lights on On, contact our repair team.
Aircraft status indicators
The two status indicators show what the flight control system is doing when the drone is on with motors stopped. A few common patterns from DJI's manual:
| Pattern | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Red, yellow and green alternating | Powering on, self-test |
| Slow green blink | GNSS positioning |
| Green double blink, repeating | Vision positioning |
| Slow yellow blink | ATTI mode (no GNSS or vision) |
| Fast yellow blink | Controller signal lost |
| Slow red blink | Takeoff disabled, for example low battery |
| Fast red blink | Critically low battery |
| Solid red | Critical error |
| Red and yellow alternating | Compass calibration needed |
DJI's manual doesn't list a setting to switch these indicators off. For more on stuck yellow, see Mini 4 Pro yellow light.
Find My Drone
If the drone goes down out of sight, DJI Fly's Find My Drone (under Safety settings) can make the aircraft flash and beep, or show its last position on the map.
Strobes and night flying
The Mini 4 Pro's built-in lights aren't anti-collision lights. In the US:
- Part 107 at night requires anti-collision lighting visible for 3 statute miles, plus current night training. That means an add-on strobe.
- Recreational night flying needs lighting that shows the drone's position and orientation.
Watch the weight. A strobe can push a 249 g Mini 4 Pro over 250 g, which brings FAA registration and Remote ID. Also note DJI's vision sensors become unreliable in the dark, so obstacle avoidance won't protect you. See Mini 4 Pro night mode and can you fly a drone at night.
