How to fly waypoint missions with the DJI Mini 4 Pro

UPDATED OCTOBER 2026

The DJI Mini 4 Pro has Waypoint Flight built into DJI Fly. Tap the waypoint icon on the left of the camera view, pin points on the map or by flying to each spot, set what the camera does at each point, then tap GO. The drone flies the route on its own, and DJI Fly saves it to the Library so you can fly the same path again later.

Mini 4 Pro waypoints: what works
From DJI's Mini 4 Pro user manual. Map-pinned waypoints default to 50 m above takeoff. Set avoidance to Bypass or Brake so the drone stops for obstacles.

Before you start

  • Update the drone, controller and DJI Fly. See Mini 4 Pro firmware update.
  • Set obstacle avoidance. In settings, then Safety, set the Obstacle Avoidance Action to Bypass or Brake. During a mission the drone then brakes and hovers if it sees an obstacle. If it's off, it can't sense anything.
  • Download the map. Connect the controller or phone to the internet before you plan on the map.
  • Need GNSS. Pinning points in flight requires a satellite fix.

Step 1: Global route settings

Tap the waypoint icon, then open the operation panel. These settings apply to the whole route:

Setting Options
Global Speed Default speed for the route
End of Flight Hover, RTH, Land or Back to Start
On Signal Lost RTH, Hover, Land or Continue
Start Point Which waypoint the route starts from

Step 2: Pin waypoints

  • On the map: works before takeoff. Only the horizontal position is saved, and altitude defaults to 50 m above the takeoff point. Press and hold a point to move it.
  • In flight with a button: press Fn once on the RC-N2 or C1 on the DJI RC 2.
  • In flight on screen: tap the pin button on the operation panel.

Pinning in flight records the position, height above takeoff, heading, gimbal tilt and zoom. DJI recommends flying to each spot for smoother, more accurate shots.

Step 3: Set each waypoint

Tap a waypoint number to set:

  • Camera Action: None, Take Photo, or Start/Stop Recording.
  • Altitude: height above the takeoff point.
  • Speed: global, or a custom speed the drone eases into.
  • Heading: Follow Course, toward a POI, Manual or Custom.
  • Gimbal Tilt: toward a POI, Manual or Custom.
  • Zoom: digital zoom up to 2x for 12 MP photos, 3x in 4K or 4x in 1080p, or Manual or Auto.
  • Hovering Time at the point.

Apply to All copies the current setting (except camera action) to every waypoint.

Step 4: Add a point of interest

Switch the panel to POI, pin it the same way, set its real altitude, and link waypoints to it. The camera then stays aimed at the subject for the whole pass, which is ideal for reveals around a house or landmark.

Step 5: Fly it

  1. Tap Next, check the settings and Start Point, then tap GO to upload the mission.
  2. The screen shows flight time, waypoints and distance. Push the pitch stick to change speed.
  3. Tap pause or stop at any time, or press Flight Pause on the controller.

DJI Fly saves the route automatically every minute while you plan, and you can save it manually from the Library.

Safety tips

  • The path curves between points, so the drone can dip below your waypoint heights. Leave room above trees and roofs.
  • Take off from the same spot when you repeat a route. Altitudes are relative to takeoff.
  • Rules still apply: visual line of sight, 400 ft, and LAANC approval in controlled airspace.

Also: Waypoint Hyperlapse

Hyperlapse has a Waypoint mode too, for time-lapses that move along a set path. See Mini 4 Pro hyperlapse.
