How to update DJI Mini 4 Pro firmware (and fix failed updates)

UPDATED OCTOBER 2026

To update a DJI Mini 4 Pro, power on the controller and drone, connect your phone (RC-N2 or RC-N3) or the DJI RC 2 to the internet, and tap the update prompt in DJI Fly. You can also use DJI Assistant 2 (Consumer Drones Series) on a computer. In October 2026, the newest release notes on DJI's Mini 4 Pro downloads page list aircraft firmware v01.00.1100 (November 5, 2025), which "fixed some known issues" and pairs with DJI Fly v1.19.0.

Latest versions from DJI's release notes

Part Version
Aircraft v01.00.1100
DJI RC 2 v08.00.0000
DJI RC-N2 / RC-N3 v01.01.0300
DJI RC Pro 2 v01.00.0400
DJI Fly v1.19.0 (iOS and Android)

Check what you have in DJI Fly: settings, then About.

Before you start

  • Charge: DJI's manual asks for the flight battery at 40% or more and the controller at 20% or more.
  • Link first: DJI Fly can't update the drone if the controller isn't linked to it.
  • Internet: keep the phone or RC 2 online the whole time.
  • Time: about 10 minutes. A limp gimbal, blinking lights and reboots are normal.

Method 1: DJI Fly

  1. Power on the controller, then the drone, and open DJI Fly.
  2. Tap the update notice and follow the steps.
  3. Don't lock the phone, switch apps or power anything off.
  4. Update every battery. DJI says battery firmware is part of the aircraft firmware. Insert each spare (including Battery Plus) and power on to let DJI Fly update it.

"Insufficient storage" during an update

The update package downloads to your phone or the RC 2 first. If DJI Fly reports insufficient storage:

  • Phone: delete large videos or unused apps, then retry.
  • DJI RC 2: free space by deleting cached clips and old downloads. See clear DJI Fly app storage.
  • Or skip the download: use DJI Assistant 2 on a computer.

Method 2: DJI Assistant 2

  1. Install DJI Assistant 2 (Consumer Drones Series) from the Mini 4 Pro downloads page.
  2. Power on the drone and connect it to the computer with a USB-C cable.
  3. Launch Assistant 2 and log in with your DJI account.
  4. Select the device, click Firmware Update and choose a version.
  5. Wait for the download and install. Don't unplug the cable.
  6. Repeat with the controller connected.

If the update fails

  1. Restart the drone, controller and DJI Fly (or Assistant 2) and retry. DJI's release notes give this as the first fix.
  2. Charge up past 40% (drone) and 20% (controller).
  3. Use stronger Wi-Fi and stay in the app.
  4. Update DJI Fly to v1.19.0 or later.
  5. Free up storage as above.
  6. Try Assistant 2 with a data cable and another USB port.

Still supported in the US?

Yes. The Mini 4 Pro was FCC-authorized before the December 2025 Covered List change, so it's legal to buy, own and fly, and the FCC has allowed updates for such drones to continue until January 1, 2029. See Is DJI banned in the US?.

App setup: Mini 4 Pro app. Shop the DJI Mini 4 Pro.
