The DJI Mini 5 Pro has no optical zoom lens. It has one 24 mm equivalent camera with a 1-inch, 50 MP sensor, and it zooms digitally: up to 3x in 4K video and 12 MP photos, and up to 4x in 1080p video. It also has a 48 mm Med-Tele mode, a 2x view that DJI says gives higher resolution than the digital zoom on earlier Mini Pro drones.

Mini 5 Pro zoom limits
| Mode | Max zoom | Approx. framing |
|---|---|---|
| 48 mm Med-Tele | 2x | 48 mm |
| 4K video | 3x digital | 72 mm |
| 1080p video | 4x digital | 96 mm |
| 12 MP photo | 3x digital | 72 mm |
Zoom limits are DJI's. The equivalent focal lengths for digital zoom are our math from the 24 mm lens. DJI doesn't list zoom for 50 MP photos.
What Med-Tele mode is
Med-Tele gives you a 48 mm view, roughly what a short portrait lens sees. Because the Mini 5 Pro's sensor has 50 MP, a 2x crop still leaves plenty of detail. DJI added Med-Tele to video mode in the September 2025 firmware (aircraft v01.00.0300 with DJI Fly 1.18.0), so update first if you don't see it.
Two DJI caveats: the 14-stop dynamic range figure doesn't apply in Med-Tele mode, and its portrait optimization works only in Normal color, not HLG or D-Log M.
How to zoom
- DJI RC 2: the camera control dial adjusts zoom by default. You can reassign it to focal length, EV, shutter or ISO.
- RC-N3: by default, holding the customizable button and turning the gimbal dial controls gimbal roll. DJI Fly lets you set that function to zoom.
- On screen: use the zoom control in the DJI Fly camera view.
General tips are in how to zoom on a DJI drone.
When zoom helps on a Mini 5 Pro
- Portraits and people: 48 mm flattens perspective and looks more natural than ultra-wide.
- Keeping your distance from wildlife, crowds or property while filling the frame.
- Compressed backgrounds: mountains look bigger behind a subject at 2x than at 1x.
For the cleanest image, use Med-Tele rather than pushing digital zoom to 3x or 4x, or simply fly closer.
If you need real optical zoom
The Mini 5 Pro is a one-camera drone. For a true telephoto lens:
| Drone | Cameras |
|---|---|
| DJI Mini 5 Pro | 1-inch wide (24 mm) |
| DJI Air 3S | 1-inch wide plus 70 mm tele |
| DJI Mavic 4 Pro | 4/3 wide plus 70 mm and 168 mm tele |
Note the Air 3S and Mavic 4 Pro weigh more than 250 g, so they need FAA registration even for hobby flying. See Mini 5 Pro vs Air 3S and Mini 5 Pro vs Mavic 4 Pro.
