To zoom on a DJI drone, tap the zoom value (for example 1x) in the DJI Fly camera view and choose or slide to a new level. On the DJI RC 2, turn the camera control dial, which controls zoom by default. On the RC-N3, press and hold the customizable button and turn the gimbal dial. How far you can zoom depends on the drone: Mini and Flip models zoom digitally up to 3x or 4x, while the Air 3S and Air 3 reach 9x by switching to a 70 mm telephoto camera.

Ways to zoom in DJI Fly
| Controller | How to zoom |
|---|---|
| Phone or any screen | Tap the zoom value in the camera view and pick a level |
| DJI RC 2 | Turn the camera control dial (zoom by default; reassignable) |
| RC-N3 | Hold the customizable button, then turn the gimbal dial |
Dial controls give smoother zooms while recording than tapping the screen.
How far each DJI drone zooms
| Drone | Zoom (DJI specs) | How |
|---|---|---|
| Mini 4 Pro | 3x at 4K and 12 MP photo, 4x at 1080p | Digital |
| Flip | 3x at 4K, 4x at 1080p | Digital |
| Air 3 | 1-3x wide, 3-9x medium tele | Second camera plus digital |
| Air 3S | 1-2.9x wide, 3-9x medium tele | Second camera plus digital |
| Mavic 4 Pro | Hasselblad main, 70 mm and 168 mm tele cameras | Three cameras plus digital |
| Avata 2 | No zoom listed; switch field of view instead | n/a |
Digital vs camera zoom
Digital zoom crops into the sensor. It's free and instant, but each step costs detail, which is why Mini models allow more zoom at 1080p (there are more spare pixels) than at 4K.
Switching cameras is what makes dual- and triple-camera drones different. On the Air 3S, going from 2.9x to 3x jumps to the 70 mm tele camera, so the image stays sharp. On the Mavic 4 Pro, the 168 mm camera reaches much farther before any digital crop. For the best quality, shoot at the camera's native step (1x, 3x, and so on) and crop later if needed.
If your footage suddenly looks soft or "zoomed in" without you touching anything, check DJI low resolution or zoomed in.
Zoom on Osmo Pocket and other DJI cameras
DJI's handheld cameras, like the Osmo Pocket 3 and Osmo Nano, have a single fixed lens, so any zoom is digital and works through the camera itself, not DJI Fly. The controls differ by model. See Osmo Pocket 3 zoom for that camera's steps.
Tips for zoom shots from the air
- Tele compresses the scene. A 70 mm or 168 mm shot makes backgrounds look closer, which works well for skylines and wildlife you shouldn't approach.
- Hold steady. Wind shake shows more when zoomed. Use Cine mode and slow stick moves.
- Zoom doesn't make it legal to fly farther. Keep the drone in visual line of sight.
