DJI Mini 4 Pro zoom: how far can the camera zoom?

UPDATED OCTOBER 2026

The DJI Mini 4 Pro has digital zoom only, no optical zoom. DJI lists up to 3x for 12 MP photos and 4K video, and up to 4x in 1080p video. The lens is a fixed 24 mm equivalent, so zooming crops into the sensor rather than bringing the subject closer optically. Image quality drops the further you go.

DJI's Mini 4 Pro digital zoom limits. The lens is a fixed 24 mm equivalent, so all zoom is a crop. 48 MP photos and slow motion don't support zoom.

Mini 4 Pro zoom by mode

Mode Max digital zoom Rough equivalent focal length
12 MP photo 3x about 72 mm
48 MP photo Not supported 24 mm
4K video 3x about 72 mm
1080p video 4x about 96 mm

The focal lengths are simple math from the 24 mm lens, not DJI figures. DJI's manual says digital zoom is only supported when taking 12 MP photos or recording in Normal or Night video mode.

How to zoom on the Mini 4 Pro

In DJI Fly (any controller): the zoom icon on the camera view shows the ratio, like 1x. Tap it to change the ratio, tap and hold to open a zoom bar and slide, or pinch with two fingers on the screen.

On the DJI RC 2: the camera control dial (right shoulder) adjusts zoom by default. You can reassign it under Camera View > Settings > Control > Button Customization.

On the RC-N2: press and hold the customizable button, then turn the gimbal dial to zoom.

When you zoom, DJI slows the drone's rotation to keep the view smooth. That's normal.

"Mini 4 Pro can't zoom": common causes

  1. You're in 48 MP photo mode. Switch to 12 MP.
  2. You're in slow motion (4K/100 or 1080p/200). Use normal video mode.
  3. You're in a mode without zoom, such as some QuickShots or panorama. Return to plain photo or video.
  4. Already at the limit. 4K stops at 3x. Drop to 1080p for 4x.
  5. Dial reassigned. On the RC 2, check Button Customization if the dial now changes EV or ISO instead.
  6. Old firmware or app. Update the drone and DJI Fly. See Mini 4 Pro firmware update.

Does zoom reduce quality?

Yes. Digital zoom enlarges a smaller part of the image, so fine detail softens with each step. Expect the cleanest results at 1x to 2x in 4K, and visibly softer footage near the limits. Tips:

  • Need 4K? Stay at 1x to 2x.
  • Need reach? Use 1080p at up to 4x and accept a softer image.
  • Better option: fly closer, safely and legally.
  • Crop later. 4K at 1x leaves room to reframe for a 1080p edit.

ActiveTrack, Spotlight and Point of Interest also work within the supported zoom range, though DJI notes subject detection is affected if you go beyond it.

Why use zoom at all?

  • Compression. A zoomed view flattens distance, making mountains and skylines loom larger.
  • Distance from subjects. Frame wildlife and people without flying close.
  • Reveal shots. Start zoomed in, then pull back.

Want real zoom?

For optical reach, the Air 3S adds a 70 mm medium tele camera. The Mini 5 Pro adds a 48 mm Med-Tele mode in video, which DJI says gives higher resolution than the digital zoom on earlier Mini Pro drones. More on how zoom works across models in how to zoom on a DJI drone.
