How high can the DJI Neo fly? Altitude limit explained

UPDATED OCTOBER 2026

In Palm Control and phone (Mobile App) Control, the DJI Neo can't fly higher than 30 m (98 ft) or farther than 50 m (164 ft), and you can't change those limits. With a controller, such as the RC-N3, or with goggles, you set the max altitude yourself in DJI Fly or the goggles. In the US, the legal limit for most drone flights is 400 ft above ground.

DJI Neo height limits
In Palm and Mobile App Control the Neo can't go above 30 m (98 ft). With a controller or goggles you set the max altitude yourself, but US rules cap most flights at 400 ft.

The Neo's altitude limits

How you fly Height limit
Palm Control (no phone) 30 m (98 ft), fixed
Phone over Wi-Fi 30 m (98 ft), fixed
Not connected or logged in to the app 30 m (98 ft)
RC-N3, RC Motion 3 or FPV controller The max altitude you set
Weak GPS, good light 30 m above takeoff
Weak GPS, low light 2 m above ground (if infrared sensing works)

The weak-GPS limits lift automatically once the Neo gets a strong GPS signal, and they don't come back during that power cycle even if the signal drops again.

Why you see "Max flight altitude reached"

That message in DJI Fly means the Neo hit the limit for the way you're flying. In palm or phone control, it's the fixed 30 m cap. With a controller, it's the max altitude you set under Safety in DJI Fly. If the Neo stops climbing early with a controller, check that setting and the GPS signal. Altitude Zones on DJI's GEO map can also hold you lower near airports.

Max takeoff altitude

DJI rates the Neo for takeoff at up to 2,000 m (about 6,560 ft) above sea level. That's elevation, not height above you. Thin air at high elevations cuts lift and battery life, so expect shorter, more sluggish flights in the mountains.

What the law allows

  • Recreational flyers: stay at or below 400 ft above ground in uncontrolled (Class G) airspace, and get LAANC or DroneZone authorization in controlled airspace. Take the free TRUST test.
  • Part 107 pilots: 400 ft above ground, or within 400 ft of a structure. See Part 107.

Should you fly the Neo high?

Usually not. The Neo is built for low, close shots. It has no obstacle sensing, a small 1/2-inch camera, and an 8 m/s (about 18 mph) wind rating, and winds are often stronger higher up. Set an RTH altitude above nearby trees before you fly with a controller; DJI's default is 30 m.

For more height and range, use the RC-N3 Remote Controller, included in the DJI Neo Fly More Combo.
