The DJI Neo's top speed is 16 m/s, about 36 mph, but only in Manual mode, which needs the DJI FPV Remote Controller 3 and goggles. In Sport mode it reaches 8 m/s (about 18 mph), and in Normal mode 6 m/s (about 13 mph). Its Follow mode tops out at 8 m/s, so it can keep up with a jogger or a casual bike ride, not a car.

Neo speeds by mode
| Mode | Max horizontal speed | Available with |
|---|---|---|
| Normal | 6 m/s (13 mph) | RC-N3, RC Motion 3, FPV RC 3 |
| Sport | 8 m/s (18 mph) | RC-N3, RC Motion 3, FPV RC 3 |
| Cine | Slower, for smooth video | RC-N3 |
| Manual | 16 m/s (36 mph) | FPV Remote Controller 3 only |
| Follow (palm or phone) | 8 m/s (18 mph) | No controller needed |
DJI measured these in a wind tunnel at sea level with no wind. Mph figures are our conversions.
Climb and descent: up to 3 m/s up and 2 m/s down in Sport, 2 m/s both ways in Normal, and 0.5 m/s in Cine.
Why palm and phone flights feel slow
In Palm Control and Mobile App Control, you can't switch flight modes, and the Neo stays within 50 m and 30 m high. Smart Snaps like Follow and Dronie fly at preset speeds. To fly faster you need a controller. See Neo controllers.
Sport mode tips
- Braking takes room. DJI says the Neo needs at least 15 m to stop in Sport mode in calm air, and 5 m when climbing or descending.
- Footage may shake. DJI notes video recorded in Sport mode can be shaky. Use Normal or Cine for filming.
- No obstacle sensing. At 18 mph, the Neo can't avoid anything on its own.
Manual mode speed
Manual mode is classic FPV acro flying with no self-leveling, hovering or auto-brake. It's the only way to reach 16 m/s. DJI calls the Neo an entry-level Manual mode drone: good for learning throttle control and level flight, not for continuous high-speed runs, dives or power loops. See how to fly the Neo in manual mode.
Can it keep up with a car or a bike?
Not a car. Beyond the 8 m/s limit, DJI says Follow and ActiveTrack only support tracking people, and tracking drops out with fast-moving subjects. A cyclist riding slowly on an open path is about the limit. Details in Neo ActiveTrack.
Wind matters more than top speed
The Neo is rated for winds up to 8 m/s, the same as its Sport speed. In a strong headwind it may barely make progress home. Check Neo wind resistance before windy flights.
Want more speed with a full FPV setup? Pair the DJI Neo with the RC Motion 3 and goggles, or use the RC-N3 for Sport mode.
