For most footage, set the Osmo Action 5 Pro to 4K (or 2.7K) at 60fps, 16:9, RockSteady 3.0, Normal 10bit color and leave exposure on auto. For a cinematic look, switch to 4K at 24 or 30fps, D-Log M, manual exposure with the shutter at about double the frame rate, using ND filters in daylight. At night, use SuperNight mode. For timelapses, use Timelapse on a tripod or Hyperlapse while moving.

Everyday and POV
- Resolution: 4K/60 for detail, 2.7K/60 when you want HorizonSteady.
- Stabilization: RockSteady 3.0 handheld; HorizonSteady on helmets and bikes; HorizonBalancing for 4K with small tilts. See horizon lock and tracking.
- Color: Normal 10bit. Try the Vivid tone (added in 2025 firmware for Normal color, up to 60fps) for punchier clips straight to social.
- Audio: turn on Wind Noise Reduction outdoors.
- Pre-Rec: saves 5 seconds to 5 minutes before you press record, useful for fishing, wildlife or unpredictable action.
Cinematic
- 4K 16:9 at 24 or 25fps, or 4K 4:3 if you'll crop for vertical later.
- PRO mode, exposure M: ISO 100 to 400, shutter 1/50 at 24fps or 1/60 at 30fps.
- ND filters to hold that shutter in daylight; see lenses and ND filters.
- Color: D-Log M 10bit, then grade with DJI's LUT. See Action 5 Pro LUTs.
- White balance: manual, so clips match.
- Slow motion: 4K/120 or 1080p/240 in standard Video mode; you can also make up to 32x super slow motion in playback from 100fps or higher footage.
Low light and night
- SuperNight mode (swipe to it): 1080p, 2.7K or 4K (16:9) at up to 60fps, with RockSteady 3.0 or 3.0+. DJI recommends it for darker city scenes. For streets with good lighting, standard Video mode is enough.
- Frame rate: 24 or 30fps lets each frame gather more light than 60fps.
- Video ISO goes up to 51200, but noise rises fast. Keep the camera steady and add light where you can.
- SuperNight needs a battery inserted and makes the camera warm; see overheating.
Electronic stabilization struggles in dim light because slow shutter speeds add motion blur. Walk smoothly, or mount the camera.
Timelapse and hyperlapse
| Mode | Use | Options (DJI) |
|---|---|---|
| Timelapse | Camera still, on a tripod | 4K, 2.7K, 1080p at 25 or 30fps; intervals 0.5 s to 60 min; durations 5 min to 5 h or unlimited |
| Hyperlapse | Camera moving, handheld or mounted | Auto, x2, x5, x10, x15, x30 speed |
- Use a tripod or the Magnetic Ball-Joint Adapter Mount for Timelapse; DJI says EIS isn't applied in Timelapse.
- 2 to 5 second intervals suit clouds and traffic; longer intervals suit sunsets and stars.
- 4K 4:3 Timelapse was added in a November 2024 firmware update.
- For a long timelapse, power the camera from a USB-C power bank.
Night sky
The Action 5 Pro can take single photos with shutter speeds up to 30 seconds. On a tripod, far from city lights, set exposure to M, ISO low to moderate, and a 15 to 30 second shutter. Its small sensor won't match a full-frame camera for the Milky Way, but bright stars and star trails are possible. See Action 5 Pro photos.
