Osmo Pocket 3 low-light and night video: what to expect

UPDATED OCTOBER 2026

The Osmo Pocket 3 is one of the better small cameras for night video, thanks to its 1-inch sensor and f/2.0 lens. For dark scenes, switch to Low-Light mode: it records 4K or 1080p at 24, 25 or 30 fps, raises the maximum ISO from 6400 to 16000, and adjusts exposure automatically. Expect usable city-at-night and indoor footage, with visible noise and softer detail in very dark places.

Pocket 3 Video vs Low-Light mode
From DJI's Osmo Pocket 3 specs and manual. Low-Light mode raises the ISO ceiling and adjusts exposure automatically, at the cost of frame rate and some features.

What makes it good in the dark

  • 1-inch sensor. Much larger than a phone's main sensor or the Pocket 2's 1/1.7-inch sensor. DJI cites it for low-noise night shots.
  • f/2.0 lens. A bright fixed aperture.
  • Low-Light mode. The camera adjusts exposure to improve image quality in dim light, with ISO up to 16000.
  • Mechanical gimbal. Smooth footage even at slower shutter speeds.

Best night video settings

Easiest: Low-Light mode

  1. Tap the mode icon and choose Low-Light.
  2. Swipe up and pick 4K at 24 or 30 fps.
  3. Swipe left and tap PRO if you want to set exposure, white balance or focus yourself.

More control: Video mode in manual

Setting Night suggestion
Frame rate 24 or 30 fps (higher rates need faster shutters)
Shutter 1/50 at 24 fps, 1/60 at 30 fps
ISO As low as the scene allows; noise climbs quickly near 6400
White balance Manual, about 3200K to 4000K under street lights
Color Normal, unless you'll grade D-Log M
Focus Continuous for moving subjects, or tap to focus

The slowest shutter is limited by frame rate: at 30 fps it can't go below 1/30 s.

What Low-Light mode gives up

According to DJI, Low-Light mode:

  • Doesn't record 2.7K or frame rates above 30 fps.
  • Doesn't support ActiveTrack.
  • Doesn't offer the Colors setting, so no D-Log M or HLG.
  • Can't use Built-in Mic Audio Backup at 4K 30/25fps.

If you need tracking or log color, stay in Video mode and expose manually.

Tips for cleaner night footage

  • Find light. Shop windows, street lamps and signs help more than any setting.
  • Don't zoom. Digital zoom costs detail, and Med-Tele mode caps ISO at 1600.
  • Hold steady or slow down. At 1/30 to 1/60 s, fast moves blur even with a gimbal. Use a slower follow speed in the control menu.
  • Use anti-flicker indoors. In Settings, set Anti-Flicker to your power grid (60 Hz in the US) if lights flicker.
  • Watch the heat in long 4K recordings. See Osmo Pocket 3 overheating.
  • Avoid lasers. DJI warns that laser beams at shows can damage the sensor.

Night photos and timelapses

Photos max out at about 9.4 MP, and the slowest photo shutter is 1 second, so the Pocket 3 isn't a long-exposure camera. For night timelapses, use Timelapse mode on a tripod and save Video + RAW to edit the frames.
