Osmo Pocket 3 POV mode and car or motorcycle setups

UPDATED OCTOBER 2026

The Osmo Pocket 3 doesn't have a mode called "POV," but it has two settings that do the job: Wearable mode and the FPV gimbal mode. For mounting, add the Osmo Pocket 3 Expansion Adapter, which gives the camera an Osmo Action-style mounting port so it works with most Action mounts, like chest straps and suction or clamp mounts. For motorcycle helmets, a waterproof action camera is the better tool.

POV options for the Osmo Pocket 3. Its mounting relies on the Expansion Adapter's Action-style port. For helmets, a rugged action camera is the safer choice.

Wearable mode

DJI built Wearable mode for first-person shooting. Turn it on in the control menu and the camera rotates and locks; tap the screen twice to recenter, and swipe up to exit. DJI recommends using it with the Expansion Adapter. Since a 2024 update, the screen also turns off automatically after 5 seconds in Wearable mode to save power.

Use it for walking tours, cooking, hands-on tutorials and shopping vlogs.

Gimbal modes for POV

  • FPV: the camera follows every movement of the handle, including roll. Feels immersive, good for action.
  • FPV-⊥ (FPV perpendicular): added in 2024 firmware. When powered on or recentered, the camera stays perpendicular to the screen, for quickly pointing at subjects.
  • Tilt Locked: pan follows, tilt stays fixed. Good for car dashboards and rides where you want a steady horizon.
  • Follow: the default, a smooth middle ground.

Change Rotational Speed (swipe down, walking-person icon) to control how fast the gimbal catches up. Faster suits sports; slower looks smoother.

Car setup

  1. Attach the Expansion Adapter and an Action-compatible suction or clamp mount.
  2. Mount the camera where it doesn't block your view or airbags, and follow your state's rules on windshield mounts.
  3. Use Tilt Locked for a steady road view.
  4. Shoot Hyperlapse for drives. DJI designed it for when the camera is moving, such as in a car; speeds run from Auto to 30x.
  5. Lock exposure if the sun moves in and out of frame, and power from USB-C for long drives.

Never operate the camera while driving. Set it up before you start and let it run.

Motorcycle and helmet

The Pocket 3 isn't waterproof and its gimbal is exposed. Wind, rain, road vibration and the weight on a helmet all work against it. For riding, the Osmo Action 5 Pro is the better fit: waterproof to 20 m without a case and with HorizonSteady, which keeps the horizon level through full 360° rotation. If you do use the Pocket 3, keep it inside a fairing or on a chest mount, at low speed, and check it's secure.

Gym, skating and roller setups

  • Settings: 4K or 2.7K at 60 fps, or Slow Motion at 4K/120 for jumps and lifts (no audio in slow motion).
  • Gimbal: FPV mode for spins and tricks; Follow for steady moves.
  • Tracking: double-tap yourself to start ActiveTrack, or use a selfie-facing setup with FT on.
  • Mounting: a tripod or the Mini Tripod for gym form checks; the adapter plus a chest strap for skating.
  • Protection: a fall can damage the gimbal. Read Pocket 3 gimbal protection.

Heat and power

Long, stationary recordings in a hot car can heat the camera. Keep it out of direct sun when possible. See Osmo Pocket 3 overheating.
