After a crash, check the propellers first: they're the only Air 3 part most owners should replace at home. Broken arms, landing legs, motors and gimbal parts should go to DJI repair or an experienced repair center. The Air 3's landing legs contain antennas, and the gimbal holds two cameras on a precise three-axis mount, so a rough DIY fix can cost you range or image quality.

Step 1: Check the damage safely
- Power off and remove the battery.
- Inspect each prop for chips or cracks. Replace damaged ones with genuine Air 3 Series Low-Noise Propellers.
- Spin each motor by hand. It should turn smoothly with no grinding.
- Look for cracks in the arms, body and landing legs.
- Check the gimbal moves freely when powered off, and that the camera glass isn't cracked.
- Check the battery for swelling or damage. Don't use a damaged battery.
If anything other than props is damaged, don't test-fly it. A cracked arm or a rough motor can fail in the air.
Arms and landing legs
The Air 3's arms fold, and the landing gear doubles as an antenna housing: DJI lists the landing gears as built-in antennas. A broken leg or a damaged arm is not just cosmetic. It can weaken the O4 link, and a loose arm causes vibration. Arms also carry motor wiring, so arm replacement means opening the drone.
Gimbal repair
Gimbal problems after a crash show up as a tilted horizon, a "gimbal motor overloaded" warning, shaking footage or a camera that won't level. First, check that nothing is blocking the gimbal (remove the gimbal protector before power-on) and run a gimbal calibration in DJI Fly. If the warning stays, the gimbal needs service. Don't bend it back by hand. See Air 3 gimbal motor overloaded.
Motor and ESC problems
Grinding, a motor that won't start, or ESC errors need a repair. Sand or grit in a motor can sometimes be cleared with compressed air, but a bent motor shaft has to be replaced. See Air 3 ESC error and DJI motor propeller error.
Your repair options
- DJI Care Refresh: if you bought it, use it first. You pay a set replacement fee instead of a full repair. See DJI Care Refresh.
- DJI repair service: start a repair request on DJI Support. DJI quotes after inspecting the drone. In-warranty manufacturing faults are covered; crash damage isn't. See DJI warranty in the USA.
- Our repair desk: we can assess the damage and arrange a fix. Start at repair.
- Independent shops: choose one that works on current DJI models and uses genuine parts.
The Air 3 stays legal to own, fly and repair in the US. For how the FCC's December 2025 Covered List decision relates to repairs and parts, read DJI ban: repairs and parts.
Prevent the next one
- Keep obstacle avoidance on Bypass or Brake when flying near trees.
- Avoid Sport mode near obstacles; sensing is off in Sport.
- Use the propeller guard for close indoor work.
- Set a safe RTH altitude above local trees.
