DJI Air 3S repair: arms, gimbal and motor replacement

UPDATED OCTOBER 2026

For the DJI Air 3S, DJI lists only two owner-replaceable parts: the propellers and the Intelligent Flight Battery. Broken arms, motors, the gimbal and the cameras should go to DJI repair or an experienced repair center, or be replaced under DJI Care Refresh if you have it. The Air 3S gimbal carries two cameras on a precise three-axis mount, and a rough DIY fix usually costs image quality.

Air 3S damaged: what next?
DJI lists only the propellers and the Intelligent Flight Battery as owner-replaceable parts for the Air 3S. Everything else is a repair-center job.

Step 1: Check the damage safely

  1. Power off and remove the battery.
  2. Inspect each prop for chips or cracks. Replace damaged ones with genuine Air 3 Series Low-Noise Propellers.
  3. Spin each motor by hand. It should turn smoothly, with no grinding or catching.
  4. Look for cracks in the arms, body and landing feet, and check that each arm folds and locks firmly.
  5. Check the camera glass, the vision sensors and the forward LiDAR window for cracks.
  6. Check the battery for swelling, dents or a loose fit. Don't use a damaged battery.

If anything beyond props is damaged, don't test-fly it. A cracked arm or rough motor can fail in the air.

Parts you can replace yourself

Part DIY? Notes
Propellers Yes 8747F, quick-release. See Air 3S propellers
Battery Yes Air 3S battery, or Air 3 batteries
Gimbal protector, ND filters Yes Clip-on accessories
Arms, motors, ESCs No Arms carry motor wiring; needs disassembly
Gimbal and cameras No Precision assembly, needs calibration
Vision sensors, LiDAR No Need factory-level calibration

Third-party "arm" and "gimbal" parts kits are sold online. Fitting them means opening the drone, and any damage done in the process isn't covered by DJI.

Gimbal problems

Signs of gimbal damage: a tilted horizon, a "gimbal motor overloaded" warning, shaky footage, or a camera that won't level. First make sure nothing is blocking the gimbal (remove the gimbal protector before power-on) and run a gimbal calibration in DJI Fly. If the problem stays, the gimbal needs service. Don't bend it back by hand. See Air 3S gimbal motor overloaded.

Motor and arm damage

Grinding, a motor that won't start, or an ESC error needs a repair. Grit can sometimes be cleared with compressed air, but a bent shaft or cracked arm must be replaced. DJI's manual says to land right away if a motor sticks and not to modify the motors.

Your repair options

  • DJI Care Refresh: if you have it, use it first. In the US the damage replacement fee for the Air 3S is $99, versus paying for a full repair. See how to claim DJI Care Refresh.
  • DJI repair service: open a request on DJI Support. DJI quotes after inspecting the drone. Defects under warranty are covered; crash damage isn't.
  • Our repair desk: we can assess the damage and arrange the fix. Start at repair.

The Air 3S stays legal to own, fly and repair in the US. For how the FCC's December 2025 decision relates to parts and service, read DJI ban: repairs and parts.

Prevent the next one

  • Keep obstacle avoidance on Bypass or Brake, and stay out of Sport mode near obstacles.
  • Set RTH altitude above local trees.
  • Respect the 12 m/s wind rating.
  • Add Care Refresh within 48 hours of activation on your next drone.
