DJI warranty in the USA: what's covered and how to claim

UPDATED OCTOBER 2026

DJI's warranty covers manufacturing defects and failures from normal use, not crashes or water damage. For most current DJI drones, the main parts (flight controller, gimbal camera, vision system, motors, remote controller, battery and charger) are covered for 12 months in the US, and propellers aren't covered at all. DJI's policy applies only to products bought from DJI or an authorized dealer, so where you buy matters.

Does DJI's warranty cover it?
Based on DJI's after-sales policy. The warranty covers defects, not accidents. Care Refresh is DJI's separate plan for accidental damage.

Warranty periods for popular drones

Retail accessories bought on their own carry 3 months. Periods can vary by product and local law, so check DJI's policy for your exact model.

The warranty starts on the purchase date on your receipt. Without valid proof of purchase, DJI starts it 90 days after the shipping date marked on the product. Keep your receipt.

What the warranty doesn't cover

DJI's policy lists many exclusions. The ones that catch pilots most often:

  • Crashes or fire caused by pilot error
  • Flying in bad weather, such as strong wind, rain, sand or dust storms
  • Flying near electromagnetic interference, such as radio towers, high-voltage lines or substations
  • Unauthorized modification, opening the shell, or repairs by an unauthorized service provider
  • Flying with a defective battery or at low battery, or flying with damaged or aged parts
  • Exceeding the safe takeoff weight
  • Third-party parts that cause a problem
  • Not providing flight logs DJI needs to analyze an accident
  • Altered or missing serial number labels

Batteries have one more rule: DJI's manuals say a battery that hasn't been charged or discharged for three months or more is no longer covered.

Why an authorized dealer matters

DJI's policy says products bought after August 1, 2016 are covered under warranty only if they were purchased from DJI authorized dealers. DJI also doesn't offer a global warranty: service is provided in the region where you bought the product. A drone imported from another country may need to go back there for warranty work, or may only qualify for paid cross-region repair. We're an Authorized DJI Dealer selling US-market stock. Returns and replacements in the first 30 days

DJI's own policy offers return and replacement windows of 30 days from the day after delivery for camera drones bought from the DJI Online Store, subject to conditions such as unused, complete packaging for returns, or a manufacturing defect or shipping damage for replacements. Products bought elsewhere follow the seller's return policy. Ask us for ours before you activate the drone.

How to make a claim

  1. Save the flight log. Don't delete DJI Fly or log out. DJI may need the log to decide whether a failure was a defect.
  2. Find your serial number on the drone, controller or in DJI Fly. See find your DJI serial number.
  3. Gather your receipt or order confirmation.
  4. Contact us or DJI support with a description of what happened. Try the simple fixes first, like updating firmware and recalibrating, since DJI starts with phone or online troubleshooting.
  5. Ship it for inspection if needed. DJI repairs or replaces the product at no cost if the problem falls under the warranty.

Quick answers

Buying used? Ask for the original receipt. DJI uses proof of purchase to set the warranty start date.

Is my drone still under warranty? Check the purchase date on your receipt. Most drone parts are 12 months.

Will the FCC decision affect my drone? Drones authorized before the FCC's December 2025 decision stay legal to own and fly, and still get updates. See is DJI banned in the US.
