The DJI FPV is the speed machine: up to 39 m/s (about 140 km/h) in Manual mode and 0 to 100 km/h in 2 seconds, with open propellers and a 795 g frame built for big open spaces. The Avata 2 is a 377 g cinewhoop with built-in prop guards, a much better 1/1.3-inch camera, about 23 minutes of flight and DJI's newer O4 video link. For filming, flying near people, buildings or trees, and learning, the Avata 2 is the better drone. The DJI FPV is discontinued, so the Avata 2 is also the one you can buy new.

Speed and flying style
The DJI FPV feels like a race quad: big, fast, loud and best over open fields, coastlines and mountains, chasing cars or boats. It handles more wind. The Avata 2 is built to fly slow and close: through doorways, under bridges, along trails and around buildings, with ducts that let it bump something and keep going. Easy ACRO on the RC Motion 3 gives you one-push flips and rolls without Manual mode skills.
Camera
The Avata 2's bigger sensor, 10-bit D-Log M and 4K/100 slow motion produce noticeably better footage, especially in low light. It also records to 46 GB of internal storage. The DJI FPV's 1/2.3-inch sensor is the same size class as older budget drones.
Safety and rules
Both weigh over 250 g, so both need FAA registration and Remote ID. The open props and speed of the DJI FPV make it a poor choice near people. In the US you also need a visual observer whenever you fly in goggles. See are FPV drones legal and FAA registration.
Which should you choose?
- Learning FPV, filming people and places, flying in tight spaces: Avata 2.
- Already own a DJI FPV: keep it for open-field speed runs, and add an Avata 2 for proximity shots.
- Want speed and to build skills for freestyle racing: look at an O4 Air Unit build. See build an FPV drone.
